The iconic ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi has been reborn every winter since 1989, built entirely from snow and ice harvested from the Torne River, 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Each year it takes on a completely new form, with between 15 and 20 ice rooms and 12 art suites handcrafted by artists from across the globe, before melting back into the river each spring. It is now Michelin-recommended and one of Sweden’s most visited destinations.
For those who want the experience outside of winter, ICEHOTEL 365 runs year-round alongside the seasonal hotel. Nine deluxe suites, each with a private heated bathroom and relaxation area, sit alongside nine art suites, an ICEBAR, an ice gallery and an experience room.
The entire structure is maintained at minus five degrees Celsius throughout the year, cooled in summer by solar energy from the Midnight Sun, with reindeer hides and thermal sleeping bags provided for every guest.

Accommodation
Cold Room: Art Suite 365
Each of the 12 art suites at ICEHOTEL is a one-of-a-kind creation, designed and sculpted from ice and snow by handpicked artists from across the globe. Over 200 creators apply each year, but only a select few are chosen to realise their vision, resulting in rooms that function as much as an art exhibition as a place to sleep.
Each suite has its own distinct theme, with every wall, ceiling and detail carved entirely by hand. Guests sleep on a bed of reindeer hides and a thermal sleeping bag, surrounded by the artwork at minus five degrees Celsius.
Cold Room: Deluxe Suite 365
Available exclusively in ICEHOTEL 365, the nine deluxe suites offer the full ice sleeping experience alongside the comfort of a private heated relaxation area.
Each suite is individually designed by international artists with the same level of craftsmanship found throughout the hotel, and maintained at minus five degrees Celsius year-round.
The three suite categories step up in facilities: the Johka includes a private shower and toilet, the Hilla adds a sauna, and the Jáuvre, the largest and most exclusive, offers a sauna, bathtub and shower. All are cooled during summer entirely by solar energy from the Midnight Sun.
Warm Room: Kaamos
The warm accommodation at ICEHOTEL is spread across three categories, all housed in traditional wooden buildings a short walk from the hotel and inspired by the architecture of Jukkasjärvi.
The Kaamos Superior rooms feature a double bed, two armchairs, a coffee machine and a tiled bathroom with heated stone floors and plush bathrobes, with soothing Scandinavian colours and light wood throughout. The Kaamos Deluxe steps up with more space, larger panoramic windows, a complimentary alcohol-free minibar alongside a more luxurious bathroom.
For families or small groups, the Arctic Cabins offer a self-contained two-bedroom option with a lounge and kitchenette, sleeping four.

The Restaurant
The main restaurant serves an à la carte menu built around seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, and also offers the ice menu, where courses are served on ice harvested from the Torne River.
The Veranda
A chef’s table with a tasting menu inspired by the eight Sami seasons, using produce from the surrounding Arctic landscape.
The Homestead
A rustic menu served in an old building in the village of Jukkasjärvi, with a feel that sits apart from the hotel.
The Icebar
Cocktails served in glasses carved from Torne River ice, at below-freezing temperature. The warm lounge alongside is the place for hot drinks and snacks between activities.
Activities
In winter
Snowmobile safaris take guests through the Arctic countryside with a certified guide, Northern Lights tours head out into the wilderness after dark with stops at warm wilderness cabins, and dog sledding tours cover the frozen terrain through forests and open landscape. Reindeer sled excursions, ice fishing on the Torne River and Sámi cultural experiences including traditional dinners are also available.
Silent electric snowmobile tours, run in partnership with Vidde Mobility, offer a quieter and more immersive way to experience the Arctic wilderness.
In summer
The surrounding landscape opens up for Midnight Sun hikes, kayaking and swimming in the lakes, river rafting on the Torne, cycling and photography expeditions through some of Swedish Lapland’s most dramatic scenery.
Gay Weddings at ICEHOTEL
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Sweden since 2009 and it makes The ICEHOTEL one of the most interesting places to have a gay or lesbian wedding.
Built every winter in a new design, the Ice Church at the ICEHOTEL will make your special day unforgettable. We can help plan your special day – the church is open from December until April each year when it starts to melt back into the river.
The Ice Church accommodates around 40 people. The altar and pews are made of natural ice, whilst its walls and ceilings are made of snow. The Main Hall is also a potential wedding venue. We can also arrange a hair and make-up artist so that you look your sharpest for those undoubtedly incredible wedding photos.
ICEHOTEL offers a dedicated Arctic Wedding Package with coordinators who assist with every step of the planning process, including correspondence with Swedish authorities regarding the required paperwork. International couples need to provide a certificate of no impediment, along with copies of passports and birth certificates, at least 14 weeks before the wedding date.
For your reception, a Michelin-trained chef will ensure that you dine in style with your guests.
