Mykonos Gay Honeymoons
Mykonos has built one of the most developed luxury travel infrastructures in the Mediterranean, five-star hotels, private villa compounds, beach clubs run to a standard closer to St. Tropez than a typical Greek island.
Its reputation as Europe’s leading gay destination grew up alongside that luxury scene rather than separately from it, Super Paradise and Elia beaches built the island’s early gay following in the 1970s, and decades of investment since have turned that history into hotels and restaurants built specifically around hosting same-sex couples at the top end of the market.
Mykonos Town, or Hora, gives the honeymoon its architectural backdrop, whitewashed lanes lined with high-end boutiques, waterfront tavernas, and Little Venice’s row of buildings that seem to rise straight out of the sea at sunset.
It’s compact enough to explore entirely on foot, and photogenic enough that a single evening walk here tends to produce the trip’s best photos without any planning at all.
Peak season runs from April through October, July and August bringing the busiest crowds and the highest energy, while May, June, and September offer a quieter version of the same island, easier restaurant bookings and beach clubs with room to actually relax.
Mykonos pairs naturally with Santorini for couples who want two distinct registers in one trip, Mykonos for nightlife and beach clubs, Santorini for caldera views and a slower pace.

Choosing a Gay Honeymoon in Mykonos
Most Mykonos trips start with a night in Athens, both on arrival and before flying home. It’s the easiest way to guarantee ferry connections to the island rather than cutting things close, and it gives couples a buffer against the return journey too, no rushing straight from a beach club to a departure gate.
On the island itself, Psarrou and Agios Ioannis have become the two beaches couples gravitate toward for a quieter, more upscale stretch of coastline than Mykonos is known for elsewhere, sunbeds with table service, restaurants built into the sand, and villas just up the hillside with private infinity pools looking straight out over the Aegean.
Private villa stays have become as much a part of a Mykonos honeymoon as the hotels themselves, particularly around Aleomandra and Tourlos, where properties often come with a private chef and staff included rather than arranged separately, giving couples the option of skipping the beach club scene entirely for a few days if that’s the mood.

Mykonos is home to many exceptional luxury villa rentals perfectly suited for LGBTQ+ travellers and groups, combining world-class accommodations with easy access to the island's gay scene. Gay Greece: The LGBTQ+ Island Guide from Mykonos to Lesbos
Greece has been welcoming gay travellers longer than most destinations have had the vocabulary to describe it. Ancient Greece was among the first civilisations to normalize male same-sex relationships, and that cultural thread, however transformed by centuries of Orthodox Christianity and conservative politics, never fully disappeared. In February 2024, Greece became the first Orthodox-majority country to legalise same-sex marriage, granting full marriage and adoption rights to same-sex couples.

A half-day boat trip to Delos, just twenty minutes from Mykonos, gives couples a genuine change of pace from the beach clubs. The uninhabited island holds some of the best-preserved ruins in the Aegean, said to be the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, and a private guide brings the site to life in a way a self-guided wander wouldn’t.
Back on Mykonos, the Windmills above Little Venice are the island’s most photographed landmark, built by the Venetians in the 16th century and lit beautifully as the sun goes down over the water. A sunset drink at one of the bars built into the buildings below is the natural way to close out an evening here.
For couples who want to get out on the water themselves, a private catamaran charter along the coast takes in secluded coves that the beach clubs never reach, with lunch served on board and a swim stop wherever the water looks best that day.
Mykonos’s dining scene has grown considerably in recent years, and a tasting menu at one of the island’s fine dining restaurants, several now holding international recognition, makes for a strong final night before flying home through Athens.

Mykonos or Santorini – which is better?
Greece has around 6000 islands, and just over 200 of them are inhabited. Among them, Mykonos and Santorini stand out as the most popular destinations for luxury travel in the Greek islands. Combining these two with a couple of nights in Athens makes for a great luxury holiday itinerary.
ReadBest Time For A Gay Honeymoon In Mykonos
June through September is Mykonos at its fullest, when the beach clubs, nightlife, and gay scene are all running at peak season. This is when Super Paradise and Elia Beach are busiest, Nammos and Scorpios are in full swing, and the island’s reputation as one of Europe’s great gay destinations is most on display. Hotels and beach club reservations should be booked well ahead for this stretch, particularly through July and August.
May and late September into early October offer a quieter alternative, with warm weather, thinner crowds, and lower rates, while most of the beach clubs and restaurants remain open. This shoulder season suits couples who want the island’s atmosphere without the peak-summer density, and it pairs especially well with a honeymoon that also includes Santorini or Athens.
The meltemi wind picks up through July and August and is worth factoring in for a honeymoon built around boat trips or beach days, since it can affect both ferry schedules and sea conditions.
Winter, November through March, sees much of Mykonos close for the season, with many hotels, restaurants, and beach clubs shut entirely. A honeymoon during these months suits Athens or a quieter stretch of mainland Greece far more than Mykonos itself.
The best trips begin with a conversation, not a booking form.

The Best Hotels For A Greek Islands Honeymoon
A honeymoon in the Greek islands is always a good idea. The perfect climate, whitewashed buildings and endless Aegean blues from the perfect romantic backdrop. Greece’s most prestigious islands, Mykonos and Santorini, are especially popular honeymoon destinations. The minimalist Cycladic style is a high point in modern design. It embodies the unpretentious luxury people associate with the best hotels on the Greek islands.

Alternatives to Mykonos and Santorini: Greece Without the Crowds
Mykonos and Santorini are famous for good reason. Between them, they have some of Greece’s best hotels, most recognisable views and a huge share of the country’s luxury travel scene. They also get very busy, particularly in July and August, and increasingly they are not the only islands worth building a high-end Greek trip around.
ReadBest Islands To Combine For A Mykonos Honeymoon
Santorini is the classic pairing, and the ferry between the two islands takes roughly three hours, making it easy to add without losing a full day to transit. Mykonos suits the first half of a honeymoon for energy and nightlife, while Santorini’s caldera views and quieter pace work well toward the end of a trip.
Athens rounds out most itineraries as a starting point rather than an island to combine, with two or three nights covering the Acropolis and the city’s own gay nightlife in Kolonaki before heading out to the Cyclades.
Paros and Naxos sit within easy reach of Mykonos by short ferry, and both offer a slower, quieter alternative for couples who want a day or two away from beach clubs, with traditional villages and sandy beaches largely free of the crowds found on the more established islands.
Delos, though not an overnight stop, makes an easy half-day addition from Mykonos itself, giving a honeymoon a dose of ancient history without adding another hotel change to the itinerary.
No two trips we plan are the same. Yours will be no exception.

Santorini Island Guide
Santorini is the most romantic of the Cyclades islands. Located in the south Aegean Sea 120 miles from the Greek mainland, it’s one of the two locations in Europe to have a desert climate. The other is Anafi, also a Greek island. Santorini is instantly recognisable. Its blue domes and caldera sunsets can be seen in the background of so many posts by Instagram “influencers.” It’s a place to be seen and be photographed in.

The Best Cave Hotels in Santorini
Santorini is one of the most romantic and exclusive destinations in Europe. It's home to a great selection of luxury boutique hotels. You won't find many sprawling resorts here. This volcanic island lends itself to a more intimate, authentically Greek experience. Cave hotels are unique to Santorini and a handful of other destinations. You may be wondering what a cave hotel is. They are, quite literally, hotels built within caves.
ReadFAQs
How many days should we plan for a Mykonos honeymoon?
Four to five days allows time to properly experience the island’s beach clubs, nightlife, and Mykonos Town without rushing. Couples combining Mykonos with Santorini or Athens should plan seven to ten days in total, allowing two to three nights in each location.
Which is better for a honeymoon, Mykonos or Santorini?
Mykonos suits couples who want an active honeymoon, with beach clubs, nightlife, and one of the most established gay scenes in the Mediterranean. Santorini suits couples who want romance and quiet, with cliffside hotels and caldera views. Many couples combine both, using the three-hour ferry between them to experience each side of a Greek honeymoon.
Are Nammos and Scorpios worth booking in advance?
Yes. Both beach clubs operate at a level where VIP cabanas and private dining should be arranged well ahead, particularly during July and August, rather than left to chance on arrival.
Is Delos worth adding to a Mykonos honeymoon?
Delos makes an easy half-day trip directly from Mykonos and does not require an overnight stay, making it a straightforward way to add ancient history to a honeymoon built primarily around the island’s beaches and nightlife.

Secluded Tahiti & Rangiroa Tour
Tailor-made HolidayThis itinerary moves through three of French Polynesia's quieter islands, each reached only by boat or short inter-island flight, and each rarely appearing on a first-time visitor's itinerary. The journey begins on Tahiti, where volcanic peaks meet a coastline still shaped by the island's original Polynesian settlements.

Ultimate Luxury: French Polynesia
Tailor-made HolidayThis itinerary is built around the highest tier of accommodation French Polynesia has to offer, and around the freedom to move between islands without waiting on ferry schedules. The Southern Maldives: Pullman Maamutaa & Park Hyatt Hadahaa
Tailor-made HolidayThe Southern Maldives operates on a different scale from the atolls clustered near Malé. Gaafu Alifu, where both properties sit, is roughly five to six hours away by speedboat, or a shorter domestic flight followed by a transfer, and that distance does the real work of keeping the atoll quiet. It filters out day-trippers, leaving reefs with far less traffic than the more accessible northern resorts.
