More Information

Since the Galápagos Islands are part of Ecuador, LGBTQ+ rights on the islands align with the national legal framework. Same-sex marriage has been legal in Ecuador since 2019, and there are legal protections in place against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in areas such as employment, housing, and public services.

However, social acceptance and visibility of LGBTQ+ individuals can vary across different regions of Ecuador, including the Galápagos Islands. While attitudes may be more conservative in rural or less tourist-focused areas, the Galápagos, being a major international tourist destination, tends to be more liberal and welcoming to travelers from all walks of life, including the LGBTQ+ community.

Visitors can generally expect an inclusive and respectful environment, especially in the islands’ more popular areas, where tourism thrives and diversity is embraced. This makes the Galápagos a relatively safe and welcoming destination for LGBTQ+ travelers looking to explore the unique natural beauty of the islands.
