Secrets Akumal is an adults-only, all-inclusive AAA Five Diamond resort on Akumal Beach, voted the #1 hotel in the world in the 2025 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards.
Around an hour south of Cancún International Airport and walking distance from one of Mexico’s most famous sea turtle beaches, the resort sits on a stretch of white-sand shoreline in the Akumal area of the Riviera Maya. Part of Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection, it runs on the brand’s Unlimited-Luxury program with food, drinks, entertainment, and concierge service all built into the rate.
Accommodation runs to 434 smoke-free suites in total, including Junior Suites, Preferred Club categories with private lounge access, and the upper-end Presidential and Romance Master Suites. Many come with ocean views, swim-out access, or private plunge pools.
Three main pools, including an infinity pool, sit alongside 11 smaller swim-out pools. Dining covers nine venues across French, Mexican, Asian, Italian, and seafood, and the Secrets Spa adds an 18,000 sqft sanctuary with hydrotherapy, seaweed treatments, and signature facials. Sustainability work includes year-round sea turtle conservation, with snorkeling tours available directly off the beach.

Accommodation
Junior Suite
Enjoy the double glass doors opening out onto your private terrace and a beautiful tropical garden view. There is also an ocean view option as well. The spacious living area and bedroom will make your stay very comfortable.
You can also choose to upgrade to the Junior Suite Ocean View which offers similar accommodations with a private balcony but stunning views of the ocean.
Each room comes with its own concierge who can arrange romantic gestures as well as 24-hour room service that is fully included in the Unlimited Luxury package.
Club Junior Suite
These suites include all of the above, and you also have direct access to the swimming pool from your private terrace as well as access to the resort’s special amenities for those in the Preferred Club rooms which include a special concierge service, access to the Private Preferred Club Lounge as well as our favourite – the upgraded minibar!
Romance Master Suite
The Romance Master Suite provides you with a very intimate stay. Enjoy the king size bed and beautiful furnishings. The en-suite bathroom has a rain shower and the bedroom leads out onto a private terrace. There is a separate living and dining area giving you lots of space to lounge in.
Presidential Suite
Your stay in the Presidential Suite is sure to be very special indeed. Enjoy the spacious layout and luxurious interior design. The master bedroom is spacious and has a king size bed. Enjoy the en-suite bathroom which is finished to a high standard. You will also have a separate spacious living and dining area which leads onto a gorgeous terrace.

Dining
Secrets Akumal runs nine restaurants. Bordeaux is the French signature, designed with Moulin Rouge flourishes, while Portofino covers Italian in a Tuscan-styled room. Himitsu handles Pan-Asian with a sushi bar and teppanyaki tables, El Patio covers traditional Mexican, and Oceana plates seafood near the beach. Market Café is the international buffet, Seaside Grill takes care of poolside dining, and Coco Café and Barefoot Grill handle light bites. Seven bars round out the program.
Wellness
The Secrets Spa covers over 18,000 sqft, with a hydrotherapy circuit, sauna, steam room, and bracing showers running through the wet area. The full-service salon handles skin and hair treatments, manicures, and pedicures. Treatments are available indoors or outdoors, including singles and couples massages. The signature 105-minute Water Journey Treatment is a curated experience using scrubs, muds, and calming masks alongside the hydrotherapy facilities.
Location
Secrets Akumal is on Akumal Bay in the Riviera Maya, on the Caribbean coast of Quintana Roo. The resort is around an hour south of Cancún International Airport, 20 minutes from Playa del Carmen, and within easy reach of the Mayan archaeological sites of Tulum and Cobá. Akumal means “Place of the Turtles” in Mayan, with a famous green sea turtle population on the world’s second-largest barrier reef directly offshore.
