Six Senses Douro Valley occupies a 19th-century country estate that, as late as the 1990s, belonged to the descendants of João Lourenço de Seara, a valet to King Afonso V in the 15th century.
The property sits on a terraced hillside above the Douro River within the UNESCO World Heritage wine region, approximately 90 minutes from Porto by road. The estate covers 19 acres, with kitchen gardens, vineyards, and orchards forming part of the grounds alongside the restored manor house and its annexes.
Six Senses has preserved the lived-in character of the estate rather than converting it into a conventional hotel, with 71 rooms, suites, and villas spread across the original manor, an annex, a converted wine lodge, and a restored mill building.
The Wine Library holds more than 750 references from the Douro region, curated by two wine directors, alongside tapas and cheeses for tastings. The spa is consistently cited as one of the best hotel spas in Europe.

Accommodation
Rooms
All rooms feature oak floors, glass-walled bathrooms, natural textiles, and floor-to-ceiling windows with vineyard or river views, each stocked with organic sodas, sourdough grissini, dark chocolate truffles, Portuguese wool blankets, and yoga mats as standard.
Quinta Rooms are spread across the original manor and its annex with separate living areas and views over the vineyards, forest, or river. Nine Valley Rooms sit in the former wine lodge, each with a private garden, a pool, a hot tub, and a communal living room with a fireplace.
Suites
Quinta Duplex Suites offer a two-level layout with courtyard and vineyard views and a bathtub positioned for views of the Douro River.
Quinta Panorama Suites sit on the fifth floor with panoramic windows over the river and vineyards, a double-sink bathroom, a separate bathtub, and a walk-in shower.
Vineyard Rooftop Suites occupy the fourth floor of an exclusive wing with a bedroom, a living and dining area, and a balcony overlooking the Douro River and vineyards below.
Pool Villas
The Pool Villas are housed in the restored mill building, each with a circular living room illuminated by an oculus in a domed alabaster ceiling and a private pool.
Daily breakfast, airport transfers, local wine tastings, and a dedicated Guest Experience Maker are included with every Pool Villa booking.

Food & Drink
Vale de Abraão Restaurant
The main restaurant sits across three connected spaces, an open kitchen, a wood-burning stove, and a fine dining room, serving a seasonal menu built on local ingredients grown in the estate’s kitchen gardens.
Wine Library
The Wine Library holds more than 750 references from the Douro region, selected by two wine directors, with tapas and cheeses available alongside the tastings. A range of wine experiences, including be-a-winemaker days and grape stomping in season, are organized through the library program.
Poolside Bar
A small bar sits adjacent to the outdoor saltwater pool, serving light lunches, snacks, and cocktails throughout the day.
Spa & Wellness
Six Senses Spa has 10 treatment rooms and an outdoor yoga deck alongside an indoor heated pool with water jets, a sauna, a steam room, a herbal bath, a laconium, and arctic showers. Treatments include grape and wine-based therapies specific to the Douro Valley, alongside the broader Six Senses menu of massages, facials, and body treatments.
Yoga, Pilates, and wellness programs are available daily. A gym with professional guidance runs alongside the spa. An outdoor saltwater infinity pool sits below the restaurant terrace, framed by sun loungers and views of the surrounding hillsides.
