A 5-star complex of restored 18th- and 19th-century residences in the most serene part of Fira, with caldera views, plunge pools, and a member of Historic Hotels of Europe.

Aigialos Luxury Traditional Settlement occupies a cluster of historic Cycladic and neoclassical buildings in Fira, meticulously reconstructed while preserving the domed ceilings, hand-carved details, and stone paths that define the island’s architectural heritage. Each residence is named after one of the ancient Greek wind gods, the Anemoi.

Rooms and suites range from 28 to 72 square meters, with marble floors, antique furnishings, and private or shared terraces positioned for uninterrupted views of the volcano, caldera, and Aegean horizon. Breakfast is served on your terrace or poolside, with homemade bread, pies, and à la minute egg dishes.

Room service and wine pairings are designed for relaxed caldera-view dining. Oia, Akrotiri, the island’s celebrated Assyrtiko wineries, and Fira’s main square are all within easy reach.

Superior Residences

The most characterful entry point into Aigialos, the Superior Residences lean into traditional cave-style Cycladic architecture, with the domed ceilings and carved stone details that define the settlement’s historic fabric. Compact but considered at 39 square meters, they offer the full Aigialos aesthetic: antique furnishings, marble floors, and terrace access, at the most accessible rate on the property.

Dining

Breakfast is served on your private terrace or poolside, with homemade bread, pies, fresh fruit, and à la minute egg dishes. All-day dining leans into Greek and Mediterranean simplicity: fresh salads, mezedes, traditional specialties, and desserts built around Santorinian tomatoes, capers, and cheeses from Santorini and Crete. Room service runs throughout the day, with curated Assyrtiko wine and cheese pairings timed for the caldera sunset a particular highlight.

History

Originally the home of a prominent Santorinian sea captain family, Aigialos was restored in 2000 by descendants Koula Tsouni and her brother, Ambassador Tsounis. Master masons rebuilt the property using local volcanic stone, Greek marbles, and colored lime plaster, preserving the traditional way of life of the island’s nobility. Accepted into Historic Hotels of Europe in 2005, it has collected awards for style, service, and cuisine ever since.
