At a glance
Niyama Private Islands is a five-star Maldives resort spread across two islands in Dhaalu Atoll, with 134 villas and pavilions, ten dining venues, and a private surf break.
Niyama is built around two islands, and the names say it all. Play is the lively side, with families, surfers, and divers; Chill is the quiet one, home to the spa and the overwater villas. A boardwalk links the two. There are 134 villas and pavilions, up to the five-villa Crescent that sleeps 22.
Dining is half the fun. Across ten venues you can eat underwater at Subsix, up in the banyan canopy at Nest, out on the lagoon at the boat-access Edge, or around beach fires at Tribal. Subsix is also an underwater club, with glow parties after dark.
The signature is the surf, a private break called Vodi off Play, best from April to October. Add one of the Indian Ocean’s largest kids’ clubs, the overwater Drift Spa, and a 45-minute seaplane from Malé, and Niyama suits surfers, families, and couples alike.

Accommodation
Beach Villa
The Beach Villas overlook crystal lagoons and soft sand beaches. All villas at Niyama come with a private sun deck, outdoor and covered rain showers, loungers, Dohni-shape swings, LED TV and Maldivian butler service. The Beach Villa can fit two adults and two children.
You can also upgrade to a Water Pool Villa with direct lagoon access and a private pool.
Deluxe Water Pool Villa
A supremely luxurious option, the Deluxe Water Pool Villa is very spacious and it gives you direct lagoon access. The marble bathrooms are huge and come with two showers and double vanity sinks. This is an ideal choice if you’re looking to give your significant other a trip to remember.
Family Beach Pool Villa
At 255 sqm, the Family Beach Pool Villa fits up to three adults and two children. It opens onto the beach. You’ll wake up to sunset views each morning. There’s plenty of space for kids to play, a private pool, al fresco bathing and outdoor rainshowers shaded by virgin palm fronds. This is the best setting for families to enjoy the Maldives in style.
Beach Pool Pavilion
The Beach Pool Pavilion offers 400 sqm of pure luxury. This is the height of modern Maldivian elegance. You’ll have a king bedroom, separate living and dining areas, a Humidor with cigars and a Butler’s pantry with extra fridge, ice-maker, microwave and wine refrigerator – your private butler could really rustle up a storm for you.
The Crescent
A selection of classic overwater bungalows that can fit 14 adults and 8 children. You’ll have 5 villas in total, each with a private pool. The Crescent comes with a private chef, two butlers, a sunset cruise and private barbecue. A grand option, even by Elizabeth Taylor standards.
More Information
Dining
With nine restaurants plus bars, a deli, and private dining, you could eat somewhere new every night. The two all-day mains anchor things, Epicure on Chill and the Mediterranean Blu on Play, while the showpieces pull you off-island: a Nikkei tasting menu underwater at Subsix, teppanyaki in the treetops at Nest, and fine dining out on the lagoon at Edge. For something looser, there’s beach street food at Took Took and sunset shisha at the Dune bar.
Wellness
Drift Spa is built out over the water, with six overwater treatment rooms and two garden sanctuaries, plus a lime-tree courtyard with sauna, steam baths, and a juice bar. The menu is unusually deep: Ayurveda with a resident doctor, a signature massage blending Hawaiian lomilomi, shiatsu, and Thai technique, plus Codage and Elemis facials. For the wellness-curious, there are even IV drips and epigenetics tests, and private yoga at sunrise. There is a full grass tennis pitch on one of the islands.
Activities
Niyama leans into the active side. The private Vodi break makes it one of the few Maldives resorts you can surf straight off the beach, with a PADI dive center and a FLOAT water sports base alongside. A resident marine biologist runs reef snorkels and a coral-adoption program, and boats head out for dolphin safaris and deserted-sandbank picnics. Back on land, there’s a vast kids’ club, tennis, and a movie under the stars.
