Villa Treville sits on the cliffs above Positano, spread across four villas within two hectares of gardens threaded with hidden terraces and sea views. Only 16 suites means the property never feels crowded, which is precisely the point. A complimentary shuttle boat connects the villa to Positano in under ten minutes, and a cliff elevator gives direct access to the rocks and sea below.
The property began as the private estate of Franco Zeffirelli, the opera and film director and one of Italy’s most prominent gay cultural figures, who filled it with art, antiques and fragments of opera sets over a lifetime. Maria Callas and Elizabeth Taylor were among its guests over the years. They came because it felt like a private estate more than a hotel.
What Zeffirelli built has been preserved and built upon. A dining terrace with views of the Li Galli islands. A spa named after one of his operas, carrying Dr Barbara Sturm products. A bar in an Arabian-inspired salon at the centre of his original vision and a kitchen producing a menu grown almost entirely on site.

Suites
The 16 suites at Villa Treville range from Junior Suites to four-bedroom configurations, each individually dressed in antiques, colourful mosaics, white walls and azure flourishes that reflect Zeffirelli’s theatrical eye. All look out to sea, and all carry the sense of staying in a private residence rather than a hotel.
Junior Suites offer views over Positano and the Amalfi Coast with access to the shuttle boat and the rocks below. Moving up, the one and two bedroom suites add private terraces and greater privacy, with several carrying names of cultural significance, among them the Romeo e Giulietta suite, set in deep red with views over the Li Galli islands.
The three and four bedroom configurations offer the full villa-within-a-villa experience, with expansive outlooks and the same antique-led design sensibility throughout.

Food & Drinks
Maestro’s
The hotel’s fine dining restaurant, set on Villa Azzura’s terrace with views over Positano and the Li Galli islands. Led by Chef Vincenzo Castaldo, the menu balances tradition with innovation, drawing on produce grown on site. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the terrace transforming into one of the coast’s most atmospheric settings at dusk.
Bianca Bar:
is housed in the iconic Salone Bianca within Villa Bianca, a room that embodies Zeffirelli’s grand vision in an Arabian-inspired setting. Cocktails are crafted in an on-site micro-distillery using herbs and botanicals grown in the property’s own gardens, with each drink offering an imaginative twist on classic spirits.
On The Rocks:
is the hotel’s seaside offering, giving guests a place to eat and drink at sea level with direct access to the Mediterranean below the cliff.
Spa & Wellness
La Traviata Spa sits nestled amid the lush gardens of Villa Treville, named after one of Zeffirelli’s most celebrated opera productions. Set in a greenhouse-style space where the indoors and outdoors merge, it is as much a place to sit in natural light surrounded by garden as it is a treatment destination.
Signature treatments use Dr Barbara Sturm’s cult beauty products, with a range of facials, massages and beauty therapies available both within the spa and, for those who prefer it, in the privacy of their own suite. The facilities include a marble-lined Turkish bath and a cold plunge pool with sea views, completing a wellness offer that is characteristically intimate in scale and theatrical in setting.
The outdoor gym sits surrounded by the views of Positano that make every session feel less like exercise and more like a reasonable excuse to stay outside for longer.
