Italy is the country people keep coming back to. The art, the food, the coastlines, the wine, the ancient history. It’s the country that appears to have everything from a cultural standpoint. Few places do this much, this consistently, across this much of a country. A first trip usually covers Rome, Florence and the Amalfi Coast. The trips that follow get further into the regions where Italy is at its best.
Here at Out Of Office, we truly understand the world you live in, and the world you want to explore. Our attention to detail, exceptional service and deep understanding of both luxury travel and LGBTQ+ travel make us a fantastic choice for those looking for a travel experience where exclusivity meets inclusivity.
We’ve spent a decade building the relationships that unlock Italy’s best experiences. Our contacts include Piedmont wine estates that require introductions, truffle-hunting families in Umbria who guard their forest locations, Michelin-starred restaurants in Rome and Bologna that don’t accept international reservations, and boutique Amalfi Coast properties that never appear on booking platforms.
We arrange private museum access in Florence and Venice outside standard tourist hours, coordinate train schedules with hotel check-in windows across regions, and secure restaurant reservations that need booking months before departure.
Whether you’re planning northern routes through Venice, Verona, and Lake Como, southern itineraries combining Amalfi Coast with Sicily, or comprehensive trips spanning Rome, Florence, Tuscany, and coastal regions, we coordinate the access and logistics that transform Italy’s complexity into seamless luxury travel.
You get the wine estate tastings, the museum access, the coastal hotels, the Michelin reservations. We handle the booking windows, the transportation coordination, and the local expertise that makes it actually work.
Italy doesn’t have the sprawling gay scenes of Spain or Germany, but it makes up for it with style. Milan is the main hub, with Porta Venezia anchoring the city’s gay nightlife and Milano Pride drawing an international crowd each summer. Rome’s gay scene can be found in Trastevere and Monti.

Luxury Travel Expert"I never get tired of planning luxury vacations in Italy. There are so many magical cities and experiences to be enjoyed. Beaches, mountains and rolling countryside, there really is something for everyone. "
Contact usItaly is a long, narrow country running from the Alps in the north to Sicily and the Mediterranean in the south. The geography changes faster than the language. Alpine lakes (Como, Garda, Maggiore) in the north.
Industrial cities, fashion and finance in Milan and Turin. The Renaissance cities of the central plain (Florence, Bologna, Siena). The capital and ancient sites in Rome. The southern coastlines of the Amalfi, Puglia and Calabria. And the two great islands, Sicily and Sardinia, each large and distinct enough to be a destination on its own.
Italy has more UNESCO World Heritage Sites than any country on earth (61 at last count) and the highest concentration of Renaissance and classical art in the world. The food and wine vary as much as the landscape. Bologna’s tagliatelle, Naples’s pizza, Rome’s cacio e pepe, Sicily’s Arab-influenced cuisine, the Brunellos of Tuscany and the Barolos of Piedmont are not variations on a single national style. They are different regional cultures sharing a flag.
UK and US passport holders do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days, though from 2026 non-EU visitors will need an ETIAS travel authorization in advance. Italy is on Central European Time (one hour ahead of the UK, six ahead of New York).
The summer high season runs from June to early September, with August at its busiest and hottest, and Italians themselves taking their holidays in the second half of the month. May, June and September are the better months for most of the country.
The legal picture in Italy is more mixed than elsewhere in Western Europe. Civil unions have been legal since 2016 and provide most of the practical rights associated with marriage, including inheritance and hospital visitation, though Italy is one of the few Western European countries that hasn’t yet legalized full same-sex marriage. Anti-discrimination laws cover sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, education and services.
In practice, LGBTQ+ travelers will find the destinations on most luxury itineraries entirely comfortable. The cities, the lake regions, the coastlines and the major islands all welcome same-sex couples as standard. Italian luxury hospitality is unbothered, and the staff at the kind of hotels we book have been welcoming same-sex couples for decades.
Italy also has one of the most interesting LGBTQ+ cultural histories in the world. Michelangelo’s love poetry, Leonardo da Vinci’s biography, the writing of Pier Paolo Pasolini and the films of Luchino Visconti are part of how the country has thought about sexuality for centuries. The legal framework may lag behind the rest of Western Europe, but the cultural ease that comes from that history is real, and it’s what travelers notice on the ground.
Italy is one of the few countries where most travelers want to see everything. Rome, Florence, Venice, Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast, Lake Como, sometimes Verona and Sicily too, all in a single trip.
Our specialists spend most of their time helping clients work out what’s actually possible in the time they have, and which combinations make sense in which seasons.
The trick is in the routing. North to south works in one direction, not both. Tuscany is best paired with one major city, not three. The Amalfi Coast and Sicily are easier to combine than people think, and Lake Como sits more naturally with the north than with the south. Internal flights save time on some routes, fast trains on others, private drivers on the coast. Getting this right is the difference between a holiday that flows and one that feels like a list of departure times.
We craft bespoke itineraries that show you the highlights without sacrificing the quality. That means the right hotels in the right places, properly timed restaurant reservations, private guides at the major museums and archaeological sites, and the regional knowledge to recommend what to add and what to leave for next time.
Every trip we book is fully tailor-made. You’ll have one dedicated specialist from your first enquiry through to the day you fly home.
The case for Rome is that it does more in one city than most countries manage in a whole trip. The Colosseum, the Forum and the Vatican on one side. Trattorias in Trastevere and rooftop cocktails in Monti on the other. Three or four nights is the minimum. Stay at the Hotel de Russie or the Hassler, use a private guide for the ancient sites, and book dinner reservations weeks before you fly.
Florence holds the densest concentration of Renaissance art on earth, but it’s the surrounding countryside that turns the trip into something more. Two or three nights in the city for the Uffizi, the Accademia and the Duomo, then a few more at a villa or wine estate in Chianti, Val d’Orcia or near Siena. Castello di Casole and Borgo Santo Pietro are among the standout properties.
The combination of city and country is what most travelers come home talking about.
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most photographed coastlines in the world, and one of the few places that still earns the comparison. Positano for the village setting and the hotels stacked into the cliff. Ravello for the gardens and the music festival. Capri for the day trip or the longer stay if you can fit it in.
Italy was a luxury destination before most countries had hotels, and it shows. Palazzo hotels in Rome, Venice and Florence. Country estates in Tuscany and Umbria. Cliff-edge hotels on the Amalfi and Capri. Villas on Lake Como. Masserie in Puglia and palazzi in Sicily.
Few countries have this much depth across this many regions. The names speak for themselves. Hotel de Russie and the Hassler in Rome. The Four Seasons and Villa Cora in Florence. The Cipriani, Aman and Gritti Palace in Venice. Le Sirenuse, Il San Pietro and Palazzo Avino on the Amalfi. Passalacqua and Villa d’Este on Como. Castello di Reschio in Umbria. The San Domenico Palace in Sicily.
Beyond the hotels, the experiences are what turn an Italy trip into something more. Private after-hours visits to the Uffizi and the Vatican Museums. Cellar tastings with Brunello producers in Montalcino and Barolo houses in Piedmont. Truffle hunts in Umbria, cooking classes in Bologna, yachts on the Amalfi and Costa Smeralda.

Italy has multiple international gateways, which makes building a trip easier than in most countries. Rome’s Fiumicino is the main hub. Milan’s Malpensa serves the north. Venice, Florence, Naples, Bologna and Catania all take direct international flights and can be useful start or end points depending on your itinerary.
Direct flights from the US East Coast run year-round on multiple carriers. United, Delta and American operate from New York, Boston, Washington and Chicago into Rome and Milan, with flight times of around 8 to 10 hours. From the West Coast, direct flights to Rome run from Los Angeles, with total journey time around 12 hours. Other cities route via the East Coast or via European hubs like London.
London to Rome, Milan, Venice or Florence is around two and a half hours direct, with British Airways and ITA Airways running multiple daily services from Heathrow. Direct flights to Naples, Bologna, Pisa and Catania also operate, and Manchester, Edinburgh and other UK cities have direct service to several Italian destinations in summer.
We’ll handle the international flights, the in-country logistics including high-speed train tickets and private transfers, and any internal flights to Sicily, Sardinia or the smaller airports.
We want to ensure you have the best experience with us so we’ll keep working on your itinerary until perfect. You will have your own personal dedicated member of our team who will help build a trip that is bespoke to you.
