Soneva Jani is an iconic overwater resort across a 5.6km private lagoon in the Maldives’ Noonu Atoll, with 51 villas, signature water slides, and retractable stargazing roofs.
Set across five islands within the Medhufaru Lagoon, Soneva Jani is the overwater-focused sister to Soneva Fushi and one of the lowest-density luxury resorts in the Maldives. The 5.6km private lagoon sits in the remote Noonu Atoll, reached by a 40-minute seaplane flight from Malé, with the scenic route over the atolls forming part of the arrival.
Accommodation runs to 51 overwater villas alongside a handful of island villas, split across two chapters at either end of the main island and ranging from one to five bedrooms. Most come with a private pool, a water slide running from the top deck into the lagoon, and a retractable roof over the master bed for stargazing.
The “No News, No Shoes” ethos carries over from Soneva Fushi, with the Chapter Two villas adding the Soneva Unlimited all-inclusive plan. Dining, wellness, and the observatory all sit on the main island.

One Bedroom Water Reserve
This over-water villa features a retractable roof over the master bedroom for stargazing. The ensuite bathroom includes indoor and outdoor showers and direct lagoon access. The outdoor deck offers sunrise or sunset views, a private pool, a dining area, daybeds, a swing, and catamaran nets.
Three Bedroom Water Reserve
Opt for either tropical sun or shaded comfort with two outdoor sunken seating areas, one with a protective roof. Unwind by the pool on sun loungers or catamaran nets, and take a refreshing plunge into the lagoon using your water slide.
Four Bedroom Island Reserve
This vast beachfront suite offers expansive indoor-outdoor spaces, including a steam bath, sauna, master bedroom, TV lounge, dining room, private pool, kitchen, and wine vault. The second floor features three additional bedrooms with bathrooms, dressing rooms, and a private gym. The pool comes complete with a water slide and a dedicated children’s pool.
Four Bedroom Water Reserve
Spanning two floors, this breathtaking reserve is the biggest overwater reserve offered at the Soneva Jani, sleeping eight adults and two children. As well as the breezy open-plan living found at the other villas, it features a private pool and a gracefully curved water slide, offering direct access to the lagoon.

Dining
The dining hub is The Gathering, an overwater complex housing several venues, with So Fresh covering all-day dining and So Wild running an overwater Japanese counter. The Crab Shack handles seafood over the lagoon, Director’s Cut pairs dinner with the open-air cinema, and Irori Grill and So Primitive cover Japanese and open-fire cooking. Signature chocolate, ice cream, and cheese parlours are open all day, with a rolling program of guest-chef residencies through Soneva Stars.
Wellness
Wellness runs through Soneva Soul, spread across two wellness complexes on the island with panoramic views over the turquoise lagoon. The approach mirrors the wider Soneva Soul philosophy, with personalized programs spanning complementary therapies, Ayurveda, and integrative medicine, supported by resident and visiting specialists. Outdoor fitness spaces, yoga, and nutritionist-designed, plant-forward menus carry the wellness focus beyond the treatment rooms and into daily island life.
Experiences
The marquee experience is the overwater observatory, fitted with a powerful telescope for guided stargazing, an extension of the retractable roofs found in the villas. Beyond it, the resort runs a PADI dive school, a wide non-motorized water sports lineup across the calm lagoon, and dolphin cruises at sunset. The Den is the dedicated kids’ club, and the open-air Cinema Paradiso screens films over the water after dark.
