Included vs upcharge matters. Luxury fares include gratuities, premium alcohol, specialty dining, WiFi, and shore excursions. You’re not constantly reaching for your wallet or running a tab. Premium and mainstream ships charge separately for alcohol packages, specialty restaurants, WiFi, and most decent shore excursions.
Itineraries reflect the difference most clearly. Mass-market ships need ports with infrastructure to handle 3,000 people disembarking simultaneously, which limits them to major cities.
