This six-night journey takes you from Marrakech’s spice-scented souks to the silent dunes of Erg Chebbi, where the Sahara meets some of the clearest night skies on earth. You’ll navigate the switchbacks of the High Atlas, sleep in a luxury desert camp, and witness sunrises that turn the sand molten gold.
Begin in Marrakech, where leather tanners work in century-old pits and mint tea is poured from height in the medina’s hidden riads. Watch metalworkers hammer brass under archways unchanged since the 12th century, taste slow-cooked tagines in family-run restaurants, and wander courtyards tiled in geometric zellige patterns.
As you leave the city, the landscape shifts dramatically. The High Atlas rises in terraced ridges, then falls away to reveal Aït Benhaddou, a fortified ksar of mud-brick towers that’s stood since the 11th century. Push further east to Merzouga, where the road ends and the Sahara begins.
By camel, you reach your luxury tented camp in the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi. Here, silence isn’t just an absence of noise but a presence of its own. The Milky Way stretches overhead in crystalline detail, and you dine on lamb tagine and almond pastries beneath constellations visible only in true wilderness.
NB: We design this itinerary with LGBTQ+ travelers in mind, working exclusively with vetted local partners. Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech - Setting the Scene
Touch down in Marrakech, a city continually shaped by Moroccan traditions and its cosmopolitan inhabitants. A VIP airport meet-and-greet whisks you away to your luxurious riad tucked within the medina. With candlelit courtyards and rooftop lounges, this is your sanctuary from the city’s sensory buzz. Spend the afternoon at leisure – perhaps sipping mint tea while the call to prayer floats overhead. As the sun sets, enjoy dinner at a chic rooftop restaurant, soaking in the amber glow of the Red City.
Day 2: Marrakech Discovery
Begin with a guided tour of Marrakech’s highlights. Stroll through the ethereal Majorelle Gardens, visit the regal Bahia Palace, and delve into the city’s vibrant souks, where artisans hammer, dye and weave their wares using traditional methods passed down over centuries. Stop for lunch in a hidden riad before retreating for some spa indulgence. As night falls, indulge in a rooftop cocktail followed by dinner at a historic riad restaurant where Moroccan flavours are reimagined.
Day 3: Atlas Crossing to Ouarzazate
Your journey to the Sahara begins with a breathtaking drive over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. The High Atlas Mountains rise dramatically around you, and a stop at the ancient ksar of Aït Benhaddou – famed for its film credits – offers a cinematic pause. Continue to Ouarzazate and check into a boutique kasbah hotel. Relax under some of the star-lit skies that the world has to offer, or take a refreshing swim in the pool, readying for the next day’s desert adventure.
Day 4: Merzouga & Erg Chebbi - Glamping Under the Stars
A scenic desert drive takes you to Merzouga, gateway to the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Here, swap your 4×4 for a camel and trek across shifting sands to your luxury camp. Tents boast king-size beds, en-suites, and local crafts. As the sun dips below the horizon, enjoy traditional music, storytelling, and dinner under a sky ablaze with stars. This is glamping at its most luxurious and makes for an unforgettable travel experience.
Day 5: Desert Discovery - Stillness and Stargazing
Wake before dawn to scale a dune and witness sunrise in sublime silence. Later, explore the desert by 4×4, visiting a nomadic Berber family and learning about their centuries-old lifestyle. After a leisurely lunch, relax with a book or, if you are seeking some adventure, join a sandboarding session. In the evening, join an astronomer to explore the cosmos. With no light pollution, the Sahara creates conditions for some of the best stargazing opportunities the world has to offer.
Day 6: Return to Marrakech
Travel back across the shifting geography of Morocco – from desert plains through valleys to Marrakech’s vibrant pulse. Stop at Ouarzazate for lunch and a peek into the famed Atlas Studios. Arrive in Marrakech by evening and settle back into your riad. Your final night might include a farewell dinner, rooftop cocktails or a last wander through the illuminated medina – it is entirely for you to decide. You will leave Morocco with memories and experiences that can be cherished for a lifetime.
