Day by day
Group departures follow a set route so everyone travels together. The nights and the order are fixed, but your specialist can add time either side. Prices are an entry-level guide; your quote will be exact.
Days 1–3 – Lima to the Amazon
Arrive in Lima and begin your journey with a smooth transfer to your hotel in the Miraflores district. This evening, gather for a welcome reception that introduces both Peru and your fellow travelers in a relaxed, social setting. On day two, explore Lima with a local guide, visiting the historic center, colonial landmarks, and the renowned Larco Museum. Lunch is included, followed by a scenic drive along the Pacific coast. Early on day three, fly north to Iquitos, the gateway to the Amazon Basin, then travel overland to Nauta to embark the Delfin III. Settle into your spacious suite as the ship begins its journey along the river. As rainforest views unfold, enjoy onboard commentary from expert naturalists before a welcome cocktail and dinner mark the start of your Amazon exploration.
Day 4 – Amazon Exploration on Rivers and Skiffs
Today unfolds deep in the heart of the rainforest. Before breakfast, your naturalist guide leads a skiff excursion along the river’s tributaries where the morning light brings birds and monkeys into sharp focus. Listen to the calls of macaws, parakeets, and other vibrant species that call this place home. Back on the ship enjoy a leisurely breakfast and time to absorb the ever changing landscape from the deck. After lunch, another skiff exploration reveals the mystery of the forest, where unique species like hoatzins and sloths can appear near the water’s edge. As rain and sun shift the river’s mood, your guide brings context to the ecology, history, and rhythms of life along these waterways. Tonight, dinner is served on board while the Amazon’s sounds echo into the night.
Day 5 – Pacaya River and Lagoons
The Amazon experience continues with a cruise through the Pacaya River and its surrounding channels. This region is part of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, one of the largest protected wetland areas on the planet and breathtaking in its scale and diversity. During the day you disembark into skiffs to explore narrow waterways fringed by towering palms and submerged forests. Expect encounters with a wide range of birdlife and perhaps the graceful pink river dolphin that navigates these waters. The afternoon offers an opportunity to swim in calmer channels and take in the serene expanses of this remarkable ecosystem. The sense of being enveloped in nature is profound, uninterrupted by the outside world. Return to the boat for dinner, enjoying the camaraderie of your fellow travelers beneath a canopy that feels vast and alive.
Day 6 – Yarapa River and Jungle Trail
This morning brings another immersive exploration of the Amazon, this time along the Yarapa River. You glide quietly through meandering channels, absorbing the sounds of life here as your guide interprets the myriad plants and animals that surround you. In the afternoon take a guided jungle walk along the Fundo Casual trail, where terra firma forest reveals a wealth of biodiversity. From monkeys moving through the trees to elusive amphibians and insects hidden among the foliage, every step invites discovery. Your naturalist guide points out twists of vine or feathered jewels that might otherwise go unnoticed. After a satisfying day in the forest and on the water, return to the Delfin III for a festive farewell dinner, where stories from your Amazon days are shared and memories begin to take shape.
Day 7 – Disembark, Visit Aquatic and Bee Centers, Fly to Cusco
This morning you disembark from the Delfin III in Nauta and begin the transition from river to high Andes. On the way back to Iquitos, visit the Amazon Research Center of Ornamental Fishes, a curated space celebrating vibrant aquatic life, and a stingless bee center where these gentle pollinators reveal a different perspective on life in the rainforest. From here, fly to Cusco via Lima, arriving in the Andean highlands where the cloud forest and Incan history await. Transfer to Tambo del Inka Hotel in the Sacred Valley, allowing time to adjust to the altitude. Dinner is on your own tonight, and you may choose to relax or explore light local options.
Day 8 – Sacred Valley Salt Pans and Moray
Today begins with leisure in the Sacred Valley, offering time to rest, enjoy hotel amenities, or stroll perfectly manicured grounds. In the afternoon embark on a scenic drive into the mountains to explore two extraordinary Inca sites. First you visit the Salt Pans of Maras, a dramatic landscape of terraced evaporation pools that have been harvested for salt since pre-Incan times. The orderly lines of bright salt against the rugged hillside are striking to behold. Next, visit the archaeological site of Moray, with its vast circular terraces that reflect an ancient agricultural laboratory. These terraces were used to experiment with crops at different elevations. In the evening gather for dinner as a group at your hotel, sharing reflections on the valley’s beauty and history.
Day 9 – Pachamama Ceremony and Ollantaytambo
This morning offers a unique cultural experience with a Pachamama ceremony led by a local Andean priest. Participants witness a traditional offering ritual that honors the earth and reflects ancient beliefs integral to Andean life. The ceremony creates a profound connection to the land and its history. Afterward drive to Ollantaytambo, a living Inca town with a remarkable fortress that rises from the edge of the valley. Its massive stonework and terraced heights reveal Incan mastery and resilience. Enjoy a buffet lunch at a local restaurant before the afternoon allows time to visit a nearby ceramics workshop or return to the hotel for rest. Tonight dinner is on your own, leaving freedom to choose how to complete your day.
Day 10 – Scenic Train to Machu Picchu and First Visit
After breakfast transfer by coach to Ollantaytambo and board the scenic Sacred Valley train to Aguas Calientes. The route through the Urubamba Valley reveals mountain peaks, river bends, and lush green slopes as you travel toward the heart of the Inca world. Upon arrival enjoy a local lunch before heading up to Machu Picchu itself. A local guide leads you through the citadel, sharing insights into its architecture, history, and mystical setting high above the Urubamba River. After a full exploration your group returns to Aguas Calientes to check in at the Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel. The evening ends with dinner together at the hotel, while memories of this extraordinary site settle in.
Days 11–13 – Machu Picchu, Cusco, and Departure
Begin with the option to return to Machu Picchu early in the morning, when light and atmosphere offer a different perspective on the citadel. Those who prefer may enjoy free time in Aguas Calientes before boarding the Vistadome train back through the Sacred Valley to Cusco. Settle into your historic hotel and enjoy time at leisure. The following day, explore Cusco with a guided city tour, visiting Koricancha, the cathedral, and the Plaza de Armas, followed by time in local markets. Continue to the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman, where massive stonework overlooks the city below. A farewell lunch provides a moment to reflect on your journey before transferring to the airport for onward flights, departing Peru with a deep appreciation for its landscapes, cultures, and history.

Optional Add Ons

Huayna Picchu offers one of the most memorable perspectives of Machu Picchu, rewarding those who make the climb with sweeping views over the Citadel and surrounding mountains. Though dramatic in appearance, the route is a steep hike rather than a technical climb, with sections that require hands and feet for balance and added support from railings and cables. Suitable for travelers with good fitness and comfort with heights, the ascent rises just over 1,000 feet and reveals angles of Machu Picchu that cannot be appreciated from within the site itself. From the summit, the scale, precision, and ingenuity of Inca engineering are fully revealed, creating a powerful and humbling experience that lingers long after the descent.
