England is an easier honeymoon than most people expect. The distances are manageable, the best hotels are exceptional, and it’s very gay-friendly.

What it lacks in tropical weather it makes up for in variety and culture: a world-class capital and, just ninety minutes away, some of the most beautiful countryside in Europe.

Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2014, and the country’s leading hotels and venues have had years to get good at it. The experience feels easy and natural, whether you are in central London or a country house in the middle of the Cotswolds.

The structure of an England honeymoon works naturally in two parts. Start with the bright lights of London, then move into the rural elegance of the Cotswolds. Together they make a compact, unhurried itinerary that covers a remarkable amount of ground.

Consider combining it with a final night back in London on the way home. It turns what could be a rushed departure into a proper ending, a last dinner somewhere you’ve been meaning to try, a slower morning, and a transfer to the airport without the hassle of a cross-country drive on the day you fly.

Days 1 to 4: London

Start in London, Europe’s most exciting city. Stay in Mayfair, Marylebone or South Kensington, within reach of the best hotels and restaurants. Claridge’s, The Connaught and the Beaverbrook Town House are the properties that consistently handle the arrival well, each offering a different version of London luxury.

Three nights gives the city enough time to reveal itself properly. Days are for museums, galleries and the specific pleasure of walking neighborhoods buzzing with culture and nightlife. The restaurant scene has earned its international reputation, and evenings build naturally into late dinners and Soho’s bars, or quieter cocktails somewhere more lowkey, depending on what you want from the night.

London has one of the great gay scenes in the world, with Soho at its heart and a broader LGBTQ+ culture that extends across the city’s neighborhoods, venues and cultural institutions.

Days 1 to 4: London

Days 4 to 8: The Cotswolds

A private transfer on the morning of day four, ninety minutes by road, and the landscape shifts completely. Dry-stone walls, market towns built in honey-colored limestone, and a pace that makes London feel much further away than it is.

The Cotswolds has an unusually high concentration of exceptional country house hotels for an area of its size, ranging from grand estates with serious spa and dining credentials to more intimate properties that feel closer to staying in a very well-run private house.

The food scene has grown considerably over the past decade, with several properties now holding serious culinary reputations, and the region’s proximity to London means the standard of service across the board is consistently high. It is, in short, the kind of place that England does better than anywhere else.

Four nights is the right amount of time to feel the place properly. Days are intentionally unstructured: walk between villages, visit Blenheim Palace, drive the back roads between Burford and Bourton-on-the-Water, eat well, and spend time doing very little beyond enjoying where you are.

Days 4 to 8: The Cotswolds

Days 8 to 9: London

A private transfer back to London on the morning of day eight rather than rushing straight to the airport. A final night in the city, at a different property from the first stay if you want a change of register, turns what could be a transit into a proper ending.

A favourite restaurant if you found one earlier in the trip, or somewhere new. A leisurely breakfast the following morning before the transfer to the airport.

Days 8 to 9: London
