Hacienda del Sol is a historic guest-ranch resort in the Catalina Foothills above Tucson, Arizona.
Hacienda del Sol opened in 1929, first as a ranch school, later a desert hideaway for the likes of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. It covers 34 acres of Sonoran Desert and gardens at the foot of the Santa Catalina Mountains. There are 59 rooms, suites, and casitas in original adobe, with hand-carved beams and Talavera tile.
Dining is a strength. The Grill is a AAA Four Diamond restaurant with Southwest-leaning New American cooking, mountain views, and an 800-bottle wine list, and the Terraza Garden Patio is the casual option. There is a full-service spa, three outdoor pools, hot tubs, and a fitness center.
It is pet-friendly, with a strong wedding following. It suits couples, gay or straight, after a romantic desert weekend as much as a family trip. Tucson airport is about 25 minutes away, with the Catalinas for hiking and riding behind.

Accomodation
The hotel comprised of 28 rooms, suites and casitas. All are eminently stylish. Expect polished hardwood floors, hand-carved furniture, oriental rugs and antiques. The style is rustic and perfectly suited to the desert landscapes of Arizona.
All rooms come with Keurig coffee makers, flat-screen TVs and custom bath products by Tarocco.

Dining
Dining is one of the resort’s strengths. The Grill is the headline room, a AAA Four Diamond restaurant serving Southwest-influenced New American cooking, much of it from the resort’s own gardens, with mountain views, nightly piano, and a wine list of more than 800 bottles. The Terraza Garden Patio and Lounge is the relaxed alternative, with casual plates and live music out on the patio. Both lean on the desert setting.
Wellness
The spa is a full-service one, with massages, hot-stone treatments, facials, body scrubs, and aromatherapy, and it can also bring treatments to your room or casita. There are three outdoor pools set among the gardens, all with mountain views, plus hot tubs and a 24-hour fitness center. Complimentary yoga is offered on Sunday mornings, and the desert and Catalina foothills do the rest, with trails leading straight off the property.
Activities
As a former guest ranch, Hacienda del Sol still leans into the outdoors. Horseback riding into the Sonoran Desert is the signature, booked through the on-site stables, and hiking and biking trails climb straight into the Santa Catalina Mountains from the grounds. Closer to home, there are the three pools, an art collection scattered through the gardens, and Sunday yoga. Tucson’s galleries, shopping at La Encantada, and Saguaro National Park are all a short drive.
