Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort

Stay in the Arctic Circle at Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort - a world famous and unique destination located in Finnish Lapland.

Choose to stay in one of the renowned glass igloos as well as one of the new premium kelo-glass igloos, snow igloos and cosy log cabins.

OOO tip: We've visited this resort and suggest a couple of nights in a log cabin, followed by a night in a glass igloo to enjoy sleeping under the Northern Lights.

One of the best places in the world to view the Northern Lights, you're likely to be able to view them from the end of August until the end of April.

Stay in a glass igloo

Stay in one of the two-person igloos include a toilet and the option of adding an extra person too. Saunas and showers are available in separate buildings. The four-person igloos include their own toilet and shower.

Breakfast and a three-course set menu dinner each day is included.

Getting There

Getting to the igloo hotel is not as difficult as you may think. From London you can fly to Helsinki and then onwards to Ivalo which is in the Arctic Circle. Depending on flight times, it is usually sensible to stay overnight at Helsinki airport on your way there. Returning can usually be done in a day. Transfers from Ivalo Airport to the igloo hotel take about 30 minutes by car.

Kelo-Glass Igloos

One of the best rooms you can choose from is a kelo-glass igloo. Combining the luxury of a log cabin with the uniqueness of a glass igloo, these cabins can sleep up to six people.

Each cabin has its own sauna, kitchenette as well as a double bed and bunk bed in the cabin and a further twin or double bed under the glass igloo.

Check out the OutOfOffice.com video guide to the kelo-glass igloos.

Explore Kakslauttanen

Discover everything Kakslauttanen has to offer by visiting its smoke sauna, ice pool, igloos, snow chapel and ice bar.

Smoke sauna and ice swimming

When in Finland visiting a sauna is essential. The heat helps you to relax and unwind. At Kakslauttanen you'll find the largest smoke sauna in the world alongside two others. Each can take up to 100 bathers at once. Also try ice swimming, taking a refreshingly cold dip in the water.

Husky Riding

Go riding with huskies in hunt of the Northern Lights. You'll sled through the wilderness drawn by these eager and friendly dogs.

Reindeer Safari

On the reindeer safari you'll head into nature, chatting with the locals and connecting with Sami people in an authentic way.

Snowmobile safari

What better way to pump the adrenaline than to explore Lapland's natural beauty on a snowmobile. You'll ride into the snowy forest and experience the best scenery on offer. The two-hour safari includes a coffee break while the four-hour trip includes lunch prepared over an open fire and enjoyed in the outdoors.

Northern Lights Hunt

Hunting for the northern lights is an often unpredictable but fun experience. On this nocturnal adventure you'll venture into the wilderness in hunt of the aurora borealis - and trust us when we say this is one of the best places on earth to see them.

Midnight Sun Viewing

In summer, the sun doesn't set in the Arctic Circle. From Kakslauttenen you can head to some incredible vieiwng points to watch the sun dip a little in the sky but also to celebrate midnight in full sunshine. We broadcast live from the midnight sun when we visited.

We're in the Arctic circle in Finnish Lapland where the sun is still very much shining and one of the best places to see the Northern Lights in winter.
