Table Mountain is a unique landmark in the Cape region with a long history, tracing back to the Khoisan people. The indigenous folks held it in very high spiritual and cultural regard, telling tales of how it formed when a giant was petrified to stone. When Dutch settlers arrived and named the area ‘Cape of Good Hope’, they called Table Mountain “Tafelberg” which translates as “Table Mountain”.
