Ecuador for Two: A Honeymoon Itinerary

A volcano at sunrise, a cloud forest with your name on the only reservation, and an island with nothing but sea lions for company: this is Ecuador built for two.

The trip opens in Quito, a city so ringed by volcanoes that the skyline and the horizon are often the same. From there, your journey will climb into the Andes for a stay at a private, restored hacienda within sight of Cotopaxi, a quiet, intimate working estate that grounds you from the moment you arrive.

From the highlands, the trip descends into the cloud forest, where a private lodge suite sits suspended in the canopy, hummingbirds work the feeders outside your window, and a forest reveals itself slowly rather than all at once.

The final leg carries you to the Galápagos, aboard a small, first-class yacht built for a handful of cabins rather than a full expedition roster, moving between islands at a pace that a couple, rather than a group, actually wants.

Privacy runs through every stop on this trip by design: a hacienda, a canopy suite, and a small boat, each one accommodating just the two of you.

Our LGBTQ+ travel specialists build every stay, transfer, and private guide around you both, trading the logistics of a group departure for an unhurried, adults-only trip that a honeymoon calls for.

In detail

? Don't forget that most of our itineraries can be totally customized. Our expert team will be able to talk you through all the options.

Days 1-2: Arrive in Quito

A private transfer from the airport into the city, settling you into a hotel chosen for its easy reach of the historic center. The rest of the day is left open to adjust to Quito’s altitude before the trip’s pace picks up.

On your first full day, a private, English-speaking guide leads you on foot through the historic center, generally considered Latin America’s best-preserved colonial old town, through Plaza Grande and the gold-leafed interior of the Compañía de Jesús church, before an evening left free for dinner at your own pace.

Days 1-2: Arrive in Quito

Days 3-4: An Andean Hacienda

A private transfer south into the highlands brings you to a restored hacienda set within view of Cotopaxi, one of the world’s highest active volcanoes.

Two nights here are built around the estate itself, horseback rides through its grounds, a private dinner under the kind of clear mountain sky rarely seen at lower altitudes, and as little or as much structure as the two of you want from the days.

Days 3-4: An Andean Hacienda

Days 5 and 6: The Cloud Forest

A transfer down into the Mashpi Reserve trades volcanic highland for dense, primary cloud forest.

A private lodge suite suspended in the canopy becomes the base for two days split between guided hikes, a canopy gondola ride over the treetops, and quiet mornings spent watching hummingbirds work the feeders outside your window.

Days 5 and 6: The Cloud Forest

Day 7: Quito to the Galápagos

On arrival, a private guide meets you for the transfer to the harbor, where a small, first-class yacht is waiting to begin the cruise.

The scale of the change registers almost immediately: sea lions sunning themselves on the dock, frigatebirds circling overhead, and an entirely different climate and landscape from the one you left that morning.

The first evening is spent settling into the boat itself, with dinner on deck as the sun goes down over water that few visitors ever see from anything smaller than a cruise ship.

Day 7: Quito to the Galápagos

Days 8 and 9: The Galápagos

Two full days moving between islands at an intimate pace, snorkeling alongside sea lions and rays, and walking among giant tortoises and marine iguanas that show no particular concern at your presence.

Spend your evenings on deck, with the boat anchored somewhere quiet enough that the water itself becomes the entertainment.

The following day, a flight back to the mainland connects with your onward journey home, closing out a trip that moved through three of Ecuador’s most distinct landscapes.

Days 8 and 9: The Galápagos
