Ireland’s wildest coastline runs for more than a thousand miles, from the sea stacks and cliffs of Donegal down through Sligo and Mayo to the limestone shelves of County Clare, a landscape shaped by Atlantic swell, sheer rock, and light that shifts by the hour.
None of this has to come at the cost of comfort. The Wild Atlantic Way is built for movement, for surf breaks and cliff paths and long stretches of open road, and left to its own devices, this coastline can read as an activity holiday rather than a luxury one.
What changes that is the structure around the days rather than the days themselves. Private instruction replaces group lessons, a single well-appointed base gives you somewhere worth returning to each evening, and a helicopter transfer turns a long coastal drive into a short crossing with the Atlantic laid out below you. The surf and the cliffs stay exactly as wild as they should be. What changes is how comfortably you move between them.

Day 1: Arrival at Bundoran
Settle in above Bundoran’s beaches, County Donegal’s best-known surf town.
Spend the afternoon walking the cliffs at Rougey Rocks, where the Atlantic swell that draws surfers here is just as striking from above.
Let the first evening unwind with views over the water and the sound of the sea as a constant backdrop.
Day 2: Private Surf Instruction
A full morning of one-on-one surf coaching at Bundoran’s beach breaks, suited to any level from a first lesson to fine-tuning technique.
The town’s coastline offers enough variety that a private instructor can match the conditions to your ability rather than the other way around.
Spend the afternoon at leisure, whether that means a second, more relaxed session in the water or simply resting up for the day ahead.
Day 3: Coasteering
A private coasteering guide leads you along Donegal’s cliffs and coves, scrambling, swimming, and cliff jumping along a stretch of coastline inaccessible by any other means.
It is a physical day, and the guide sets the pace to match your group, reading the tide and the rock as closely as the weather.
Evenings after a day like this tend to be quiet ones, and the base you return to is built for exactly that.
Day 4: Helicopter Transfer to Lahinch
Rather than the three-hour coastal drive south, a private helicopter carries you from Donegal to County Clare in under an hour, following the coastline the entire way.
Settle in above Lahinch, another of Ireland’s principal surf towns, in time for an afternoon cycling the coast road toward the Cliffs of Moher.
The route allows stops wherever the view demands, with no fixed schedule to keep to.
Day 5: The Cliffs of Moher and Departure
A final morning at the Cliffs of Moher, best seen early before the day’s visitors arrive, when the light and the quiet make the height of the cliffs feel even more considerable.
From there, a private transfer carries you on to your onward journey, closing out a trip built around the coastline from start to finish.
