Homosexuality is regarded as a complex issue in much of Africa, but in South Africa it’s far easier. South Africa is the unofficial gay capital of Africa and you’ll find Africa’s biggest LGBTQ+ community in Cape Town.
Cape Town boasts a vibrant and open LGBTQ scene centered in lively neighborhoods like De Waterkant. Find buzzing nightclubs, cafes, beaches, and cultural events catering to the LGBTQ community. Cape Town prides itself on diversity and self-expression.
Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2006, and LGBTQ+ people are protected from discrimination by the constitution. However, negative social attitudes can persist in some rural areas of South Africa, so it’s wise to be cautious when heading outside of major cities.
Accommodation
There are four En Suite Luxury Rooms. Decorated in a rustic style, each comes with elegant bathrooms, separate sitting areas, a veranda and a king sized or two double beds.
Ideal for a small family or if you want extra space, the Family Chalets has two double bedrooms – one in a second-story loft. They also have a boma, shared bathrooms and spacious living area.
The Cottage is, quite literally, a thatched cottage such as you’d find in Britain. The interiors have a classic African style. There are two double bedrooms, a private veranda and even a private pool. An ideal place to dine under the stars.
The most exclusive option is the Homestead. Each of the two bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom and outdoor shower. The lounge opens onto a spacious deck overlooking the bushveld. It has an open place kitchen and private plunge pool overlooking Msunduze River.

Rhino Lodge is one of the best places to pursue the Big Five. Your game drives will begin at first light. A light breakfast will be served and then you’ll go for a three hour drive. You’ll then break for a coffee and a snack.
A larger breakfast will be served back at the camp. You’re then free to relax. The afternoon game drive a couple of hours before sunset. A three course meal will be served under the stars later in the evening.
