Aruba is considered one of the more LGBTQ+-friendly islands in the Caribbean, offering a safe and inclusive environment for travelers. As part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Aruba has adopted progressive policies on LGBTQ+ rights. Same-sex marriage is recognized on the island for couples who marry in the Netherlands, and Aruba also acknowledges civil unions, providing some legal protections for same-sex couples.
In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift toward greater acceptance and inclusion, with local businesses and tourism initiatives embracing the LGBTQ+ community. While Aruba’s small size means its LGBTQ+ nightlife is not as extensive as larger destinations, there are queer-friendly bars, events, and social spaces, particularly in the capital, Oranjestad. For a buffet-style experience, Market Café serves a variety of local and international dishes in a tropical garden setting, available for breakfast and lunch. If you’re craving seafood can dine at Oceana, which serves freshly prepared seafood in a romantic atmosphere, while Portofino specializes in Italian cuisine, including a wine cellar. Asian fusion flavors can be found at Himitsu, featuring a fusion of Pan-Asian à la carte specialties, and Tierra serves up rich South American fusion dishes in a cozy, welcoming setting.
For drinks and entertainment, there are multiple bars and lounges to choose from. Manatees and Sugar Reef are poolside bars offering tropical cocktails throughout the day, while the Preferred Club Bar is an exclusive retreat for Preferred Club guests. Rendezvous, located in the lobby, serves premium cocktails all day and night, and Prelude Bar offers nightly entertainment alongside expertly crafted drinks.
