This tailor-made itinerary and Seabourn gay cruise pairs Italy with the Dalmatian Coast, moving from Venice’s canals to a string of Adriatic ports before closing in Rome.
The journey begins in Venice, with two nights at the Belmond Hotel Cipriani, set on its own private stretch of Giudecca Island across the water from the main city. A gondola ride through the canals is the obvious first move, followed by an afternoon at Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica, two buildings that between them explain most of Venice’s history in a single walk. As evening settles in, dinner can mean anything from a quiet canalside table to a night at Teatro La Fenice, Venice’s opera house, rebuilt twice after fire and still one of the most striking rooms in the city.
From Venice, the journey continues aboard the Seabourn, calling at a run of ports that each show a different side of the Adriatic: Koper, where centuries of Venetian rule are still visible in the architecture, medieval Dubrovnik in Croatia, and Amalfi, where the coastline itself does most of the work.
