Cape Town’s skyline doesn’t lack icons, but The Silo Hotel has redefined the city’s silhouette. Rising above the V&A Waterfront in a restored 1920s grain silo, this striking glass-and-concrete landmark blends architectural drama with a deeply personal design vision.
The exterior, reimagined by architect Thomas Heatherwick, retains its industrial roots while glowing with faceted convex windows that billow out over the harbor like lanterns. Inside, the tone shifts completely. Here, color, texture, and curated art fill every inch of space with warmth, eccentricity, and bold personality.
Each of the 28 rooms and suites is individually styled by hotelier Liz Biden, combining heritage details with contemporary African design. Expect velvet sofas, Egyptian crystal chandeliers, custom ceramics, and floor-to-ceiling views of Table Mountain or the Atlantic Ocean.
The bathrooms are a standout, with freestanding tubs centered beneath 18-foot windows, offering some of the best bath views in the world. While exclusivity defines the experience, it’s not only about the rooms. Guests and visitors alike can access The Silo’s restaurants, art gallery, and rooftop.

Accommodation
Silo Room
Framed by the building’s iconic convex windows, each room offers sweeping views over Cape Town, with interiors that blend bold color, bespoke furnishings, and playful sophistication. At approximately 47 square meters (just over 500 square feet), it’s the hotel’s entry-level category, but nothing about it feels standard.
Expect layered textures, original artworks, and a mix of antique and modern design curated by Liz Biden. A freestanding bathtub takes center stage beside the soaring windows, while high ceilings and mirrored accents enhance the sense of space and light. Each room is uniquely styled, making no two stays the same.
Ideal for solo travelers or couples, the Silo Room combines thoughtful luxury with dramatic views of Table Mountain, the harbor, or Cape Town’s cityscape. It’s private, design-led, and unmistakably part of one of Africa’s most iconic hotels.
Duplex Suite
The Duplex Suite is one of The Silo Hotel’s most dramatic spaces with its two-story showpiece that captures Cape Town’s natural and architectural splendor from every angle. Spread across two levels, these suites offer double-height ceilings, 5.5-meter-tall windows, and uninterrupted views of Table Mountain or the city skyline.
On the lower level, the living and dining areas are vibrant and eclectic, styled with curated artworks, layered textures, and Liz Biden’s signature mix of color and character. A spiral staircase leads to the upper floor, where a king-sized bed and statement bathroom await. The free-standing tub faces the panoramic glass windows, offering a surreal soak above the city.
For more space, you can upgrade to the Deluxe Superior Suite.
Family Duplex Suite
Downstairs, a generous lounge and dining space are framed by towering convex windows with views that stretch from city to sea. The room is dressed in rich textures, playful colors, and curated artworks with every detail handpicked for its personality and place. Upstairs, the master bedroom offers a king-size bed and an expansive bathroom with a soaking tub, while a second bedroom on the lower floor provides twin beds, ideal for children or additional guests.
Royal Suite
The Royal Suite is The Silo Hotel’s most expansive and iconic residence. Positioned on the top floor, it offers panoramic views of Table Mountain, the Atlantic Ocean, and the city’s ever-changing skyline through its dramatic 5.5-meter windows. At over 200 square meters (2,150+ square feet), this is a space designed for those who expect privacy, style, and something extraordinary.
Inside, the suite feels more like a private art gallery-meets-home. Vibrant fabrics, statement chandeliers, and one-of-a-kind African artworks create a living space that is both lavish and full of personality. The open-plan lounge and dining area flow seamlessly into two en-suite bedrooms, each styled with Liz Biden’s unmistakable flair.
Ideal for VIPs, honeymooners, or families seeking exclusivity at the highest level, the Royal Suite offers the very best of The Silo.
The Penthouse
Spanning the entire top floor, this one-of-a-kind residence offers 360-degree views over Table Mountain, the Atlantic Ocean, and the V&A Waterfront. It’s not just a suite; it’s a statement of intent for travelers who expect the exceptional at every turn.
Inside, the Penthouse is a masterclass in personal luxury. It brings together arresting color, museum-quality art, and handpicked furnishings in a space that feels both expansive and deeply curated. The oversized master bedroom leads to a dramatic en-suite bathroom with a freestanding tub placed directly in front of a 5.5-meter window. Living and dining spaces are ideal for entertaining or simply unwinding in total privacy, surrounded by the textures and talent of contemporary South African design.
Further information
Dining

The Granary Café is The Silo Hotel’s main restaurant, where Executive Chef Veronica Canha-Hibbert builds all-day menus around seasonal South African produce. The Willaston Bar, on the sixth floor, pairs a deep wine and cocktail list with views through 5.5-meter pillowed-glass windows. The Silo Rooftop serves light plates and oysters beside the heated pool, and The Wisdom Room handles private dining.
Wellness

The Silo Spa occupies the fourth floor, with five treatment rooms, two of which combine into a couples’ suite, alongside a sauna and a dedicated manicure and pedicure area. Signature treatments draw on international skincare lines. A gym covers the fitness side, and the heated rooftop pool, set on the top floor with views across Table Bay, doubles as the hotel’s main place to swim and unwind.
Location

The Silo Hotel rises six floors above the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, in a converted 1920s grain silo at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront. As the precinct’s tallest building, it looks out from Table Mountain across Table Bay through its faceted glass windows. The Waterfront’s shops, restaurants, and boat trips are a short walk away, with Cape Town International Airport around 20 minutes by car.
South Africa
South Africa occupies the southern tip of the African continent, bordered by the Atlantic and Indian Oceans and sharing land borders with Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Eswatini. The country spans eleven official languages and an extraordinary range of landscapes, from the winelands of the Western Cape to the bushveld of Limpopo and the dramatic coastline of the Garden Route. Most itineraries begin in Cape Town, one of the world’s great cities.
