Scotland might not be warm and sunny but it’s very romantic. Edinburgh is one of Europe’s most beautiful capital cities, dense with history, excellent restaurants and an LGBTQ+ scene that has been at the heart of the city for decades.

The Highlands are something else entirely: ancient forest, dark lochs and mountain passes on a scale that makes most European landscapes feel modest by comparison. The best Highland estates offer a level of seclusion and personal service that is genuinely difficult to find anywhere at any price.

Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2014, and Scotland has spent the years since becoming very accomplished at it.

In Edinburgh, romance tends to unfold in small, atmospheric moments: candlelit dinners in centuries-old buildings, late-night walks through winding cobbled streets, and views from Arthur’s Seat.

Scotland stands apart from more obvious honeymoon choices by offering a kind of luxury that feels both refined and deeply rooted. This is not a rustic destination. From beautifully restored castles to world-class country house hotels, Scotland has impeccable luxury credentials.

In detail

Days 1 to 4: Edinburgh

Start in Edinburgh, where the trip finds its energy. Stay in the New Town or on Princes Street, within easy reach of the city’s best hotels and restaurants. The Balmoral is the classic arrival property, with its position at the top of the Royal Mile and a level of quiet attentiveness that sets the tone for the trip without making a fuss of it. For something more intimate, a Georgian townhouse taken on an exclusive-use basis offers a different kind of arrival entirely.

Three nights give you time to appreciate the city in full. Be sure to explore the Old Town’s closes and wynds, the Scottish National Gallery – Edinburhg is one of the best city’s in Europe to explore on foot. Its gothic grandeur is truly impressive. Arthur’s Seat is worth the climb for the views alone.

Edinburgh’s LGBTQ+ scene is centered on the Broughton area, sometimes called the Pink Triangle.

Days 1 to 4: Edinburgh

Days 4 to 8: The Highlands

A private transfer north on the morning of day four, and the character of the trip changes completely. The Highlands operate on a different scale: ancient Caledonian forest, dark lochs, mountain passes and a quality of emptiness that is increasingly hard to find anywhere in Europe.

The best properties here offer something hotels cannot: no shared spaces, no other guests, a sense of having arrived somewhere that exists entirely on its own terms. Inverlochy Castle near Fort William is the benchmark, a property that has been doing Highland luxury properly for decades with views of Ben Nevis and a kitchen to match.

Gleneagles in Perthshire is the right choice for couples who want a spa and a broader range of activities alongside the scenery. For something more remote, a private estate in the Cairngorms or on the west coast offers complete seclusion and a level of personal service that large hotels cannot replicate.

Four nights gives the Highlands time to work properly. Days are unstructured by design: walk the glens, take a private boat on the loch, visit a whisky distillery on a private tour, or simply stay close to the fire and do very little.

Days 4 to 8: The Highlands

Days 8 to 9: Edinburgh

A private transfer back to Edinburgh on day eight rather than pushing straight to the airport. A final night in the city turns what could be a rushed departure into a proper ending. A last dinner somewhere you didn’t manage earlier in the trip, a slower morning, and a transfer to the airport.

Days 8 to 9: Edinburgh

Why Book With Out Of Office

As a UK-based travel company, Scotland is home territory for us. We know which Highland estates deliver at a honeymoon level and which are better suited to shooting parties. We know the Edinburgh hotels that get the arrival right, and we know the properties across the Highlands that welcome same-sex couples with the ease that comes from real experience rather than policy.

We have more than a decade of experience building luxury itineraries specifically for LGBTQ+ couples across the UK, and Scotland in particular is a destination we know in depth. We have the relationships to secure the rooms, the tables and the moments that make a honeymoon feel considered rather than assembled, from room upgrades to private experiences that don’t appear on any website.

Every itinerary starts with a conversation about what you want this trip to feel like. Scotland can deliver all of it. Our role is to make sure it does.
