A 15th-century Venetian palace reborn as Orient Express Venezia, where eight years of meticulous restoration by architect Aline Asmar d’Amman have produced one of the most architecturally remarkable hotel openings in the city’s recent history.
Orient Express Venezia occupies the Palazzo Donà Giovannelli, once home to the Duke of Urbino before passing through centuries of Venetian noble ownership and a transformation by architect Gian Battista Meduna in the 1800s.
Forty-seven restored rooms and suites sit within its historic walls, including six Signature Suites of up to 145 square metres, each revealing 19th-century frescoes, gilded salons, ornate stuccos, and monumental marble fireplaces.
The dining offer spans a destination gourmet restaurant where haute cuisine meets Venetian tradition, an all-day dining venue opening onto courtyard gardens, and a bar serving signature cocktails and authentic cicchetti.

Accommodation
La Minerva Suite
Named after the Roman goddess of wisdom and arts, this suite occupies one of the Palazzo’s most iconic corners, overlooking two canals. The centrepiece is an original 1710 fresco by Jacopo Guarana on a curved, stuccoed ceiling, one of the oldest artistic treasures in the hotel. Pastel furnishings reflect the fresco’s tones, a king bed faces a rare Venetian corner window, and the bathroom is carved entirely from Venetian marble in forms referencing Ca’ d’Oro and the Basilica di San Marco.
Del Conte Suite
Named for Count Giovannelli, humanist and patron of the arts, this is one of the largest and most architecturally layered suites in the hotel. Neo-Gothic stained-glass windows, arched corridors, wooden and brick partitions, and Pompeian-inspired ornamentation accumulate across a generous separate bedroom and elegant salon. Light filters through arched openings throughout the day, and a full marble bathroom provides a quiet counterpoint to the suite’s considerable grandeur.
Cherubini Suite
Named for the cherubs that run across its walls, this suite looks out over the Palazzo gardens and Strada Nova. A rediscovered frieze by Sebastiano Santi frames the salon beneath a finely worked wooden coffered ceiling, while the master bedroom is anchored by a king bed set beneath a blue-and-gold dome illuminated by Murano glass. The full marble bathroom adds dual basins, a deep soaking tub, and a dedicated vanity desk.
The Signature Suite Collection
Across the six Signature Suites at Orient Express Venezia, a consistent level of inclusion applies: Meet and Greet on arrival, butler services including packing and unpacking, Rivolta Carmignani 1867 bed linens, Murano glass details throughout, full complimentary minibar, bespoke bathroom amenities, laundry service, and return transfers to and from Santa Lucia or Piazza San Marco train stations. Each suite is individually designed around a specific chapter of the Palazzo’s history, making no two experiences remotely alike.

Dining
Every dining space at Orient Express Venezia operates under the creative direction of three Michelin-starred Chef Heinz Beck. The flagship is Heinz Beck Venezia, an intimate fine dining restaurant for just 20 guests, serving tasting menus and à la carte dishes that balance Mediterranean lightness with unexpected local combinations, from amberjack with ash buttermilk to red prawn with lagoon seaweed. La Casati is the all-day dining space, seating up to 34 inside and 70 in the secret garden, with cicchetti and seasonal Venetian dishes in a relaxed setting of soft pinks and pastel tones. The Wagon Bar brings the spirit of the original Orient Express to a cocktail bar designed to evoke a vintage railway carriage, with signature drinks and Venetian aperitivo.
Wellness
The spa at Orient Express Venezia draws on Venice’s thousand-year role as the bridge between Europe and the Ottoman East, combining Roman thermal heritage, Venetian maritime tradition, and Ottoman bathing ritual into a singular wellness concept. The signature Razul ceremonies, including The Merchant’s Passage, The Silk Road Passage, and the Palazzo Ceremony, guide guests through ancestral purification rituals using mineral-rich steam and aromatic clays. Beauty treatments are by Furtuna Skin, whose skincare is powered by wild-foraged botanicals and olive oil from an 800-acre regenerative farm in Sicily.
