At a glance
Il Sereno is one of Lake Como’s most distinctive properties: a 40-suite hotel in Torno designed by Patricia Urquiola, where floor-to-ceiling glass puts the lake at the center of every room.
The hotel takes a deliberately contemporary stance on a destination more associated with belle-epoque grandeur. Urquiola’s interiors work earthy materials, natural patterns, and exclusively designed fabrics into a palette that feels rooted in its surroundings without deferring to them. Every suite faces the water with a private furnished terrace.
Dining is anchored by Al Lago, the Michelin-starred restaurant led by Chef Raffaele Lenzi, drawing on Lake Como’s fresh catch and Lombardy’s wider larder.
The spa occupies the original boathouse, and a 60-foot freshwater infinity pool hangs over the lake. A fleet of custom Ernesto Riva boats completes the picture.

Accommodation
Range Overview
Il Sereno’s 40 lakefront suites span from the 40 sqm Piccoletta up to the 185 sqm Penthouse, with every category facing the water. Mid-range options include the Garden Lake View Suite with private garden, the Grand Suite Lago with an oversized terrace, and the panoramic Corner Suite. At the top end sit the Darsena Listening Suite, a soundproofed 200 sqm audiophile space with direct lake access, and the Penthouse, complete with wraparound terrace and private hot tub.
Alcova Suite
The Alcova runs from 60 to 70 sqm and introduces a signature design feature: Urquiola’s Night and Day system, a Molteni alcove adjoining the main room that converts between sleeping space, reading library, or workspace depending on preference. A king-size bed faces the lake, the terrace has lounge furniture, and natural materials and Urquiola-designed fabrics carry through the neutral palette.
Lario Suite
Ranging from 50 to 63 sqm, the Lario Suites are designed around lake views and a lived-in sense of comfort. Each has a king-size bed, sitting area with sofa, desk, and reading chair, with floor-to-ceiling windows opening onto a furnished terrace over the water. Fabrics and color palette are by Patricia Urquiola, created exclusively for the hotel, with D. Porthault linens throughout.
Piccoletta Suite
The Piccoletta is Il Sereno’s entry-level room at 40 sqm, and the only wheelchair-accessible accommodation in the hotel. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame lake views, and the suite follows the same material palette found throughout the property: stone, walnut, and bronze, with a king-size bed and D. Porthault linens. Compact but consistent with the hotel’s wider design language, it’s a strong entry point into the Il Sereno experience.

Dining and Drinks
Dining centers on Il Sereno Al Lago, the Michelin-starred lakeside restaurant open daily from 7am to 10:30pm to both hotel guests and outside visitors. Chef Raffaele Lenzi, who earned his star in 2017, runs three dinner tasting menus anchored by his Homage to Tradition format, alongside a lighter regional lunch service. The wine list leans into small Italian producers and local labels, including Verdese, a grape grown only in the restricted zone bordering Lake Como, with a focus on Valtellina reds and Champagne.
The Lobby Bar handles cocktails and sundowners with lake views, its menu shaped by Sri Lankan-born bar manager Don Vidura Nilaksha Colambage and a roster of six aromatic mocktails using herbs and flowers from the region. Pool and terrace service extends the Al Lago menu throughout the day.
Spa
The Il Sereno Spa occupies the original Darsena boathouse of the estate, redesigned by Patricia Urquiola into a compact but considered wellness space directly over the water. The outdoor relaxation area and pool sit literally above the lake, and the facility includes a sauna, steam room, and treatment rooms. The gym sits one level below, equipped with cardio machines and weights and open 24 hours.
