The Bulgari Hotel Milano occupies a converted eighteenth-century palazzo and former convent on a quiet residential street between the Brera arts quarter and the Via Montenapoleone shopping district.

The address is central by any measure, yet the hotel’s 43,000 square feet of private gardens create a sense of remove from the city that most Milan hotels at any price point cannot come close to matching. It opened in 2004 as the first property in the Bulgari Hotels portfolio and remains the one that sets the standard for everything that followed.

The interiors are built around the contrast between dark, intimate communal spaces and rooms flooded with natural light through floor-to-ceiling glass. Teak, oak, and leather dominate the furnishings, while black Zimbabwe marble and white Navona travertine give the bathrooms a weight and drama that feel entirely in keeping with the brand.

The Bulgari Suite, added in 2021 across an entire floor with a private rooftop garden and a bathtub carved from a single piece of marble, is among the most extraordinary hotel rooms in the city.

At ground level, Il Ristorante serves contemporary Italian cuisine from three-Michelin-star chef Niko Romito, with a terrace that opens directly onto the garden. The spa, modeled on the ancient Roman bath tradition, anchors a wellness offering that includes a gold-tiled pool, a mosaic hammam, and a private gym conceived by trainer Lee Mullins.

The Sunday brunch, a long-standing fixture on the Milanese social calendar, draws a crowd that tells you everything you need to know about the hotel’s standing in the city.

Wining and Dining

Il Ristorante, Niko Romito

Three-Michelin-star chef Niko Romito’s concept at the Bulgari Milano centers on classic Italian cooking stripped back and rebuilt with precision. Familiar dishes, lasagna, tiramisù, veal Milanese, arrive recodified and sharper than expected. Terrace dining available in spring and summer.

The Bulgari Bar and Lounge

An oval black resin bar set against a glass wall opening onto the garden, with a cocktail list anchored by the signature Bulgari Cocktail and a lounge that runs from morning coffee through to late-night digestifs. The Sunday brunch, at 120 euros with a welcome glass of Ruinart, draws as many Milanese as hotel guests.
