At a glance
One of the finest buildings in Florence and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, Villa Cora is a 19th-century aristocratic residence turned five-star hotel of extraordinary opulence.
Commissioned by Baron Oppenheim in the 1860s and designed by architect Pietro Camparini, Villa Cora sits on the hills just south of Florence’s historic center, overlooking the Boboli Gardens. Its interiors are a deliberately lavish collision of styles: trompe l’oeil frescoes, crystal chandeliers, parquet floors, and a ballroom of breathtaking grandeur. Among its historic guests were Princess Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, and the composer Claude Debussy.
After a comprehensive renovation, the villa reopened as a grand hotel in 2010, with accommodation ranging from Classic Rooms to the opulent Imperial Suite. Dining spans Restaurant Le Bistrot, the Santa Garden Cocktail Club, and the Bellevue Roof Terrace, with its sweeping views across the city.
The surrounding Italian-style garden, complete with centuries-old oaks and rose gardens, frames a heated outdoor pool. Piazzale Michelangelo, Florence’s most celebrated viewpoint, is a ten-minute walk away.

Highlights
- Rooms and suites housed in a lavishly restored 19th-century aristocratic villa of extraordinary character
- Interiors featuring trompe l’oeil frescoes, crystal chandeliers, and parquet floors throughout
- A heated outdoor pool set within an Italian-style garden of centuries-old oaks and roses
Accommodation
Imperial Suite
Located on the Villa’s Nobel Floor, the Imperial Suite has welcomed guests including Emperor Akihito of Japan. Two spacious bedrooms with four-poster beds are paired with elegant bathrooms in Carrara marble, while original frescoes by Pietrasanta and Samoggia adorn the walls. A private balcony looks out over Florence and the Villa’s gardens, making this the most prestigious address in the hotel.
Suite
The Suites occupy the Noble Floor and Rose Floor of the Villa, carrying with them a remarkable guest list: Tchaikovsky, Grace Kelly, Princess Eugenia Bonaparte and Madame Debussy have all stayed here. Four-poster beds, wooden floors, and lavish furnishings set the tone throughout, with a separate living room adding space and grandeur to every stay.
Junior Suite
No two Junior Suites at Villa Cora are alike. Antique parquet floors and frescoed ceilings set the tone throughout, while the details shift by floor: roses and romance on the second, white and purple velvets with hand-painted gold on the fourth. In Villino Eugenia, pastel-painted ceilings and three generous garden-facing windows create a suite of real character and charm.
Family Suite
The Family Room sits on the Villa’s Moorish Floor and offers two spacious bedrooms: an elegant master room and a second with twin beds. Two marble bathrooms with deep-toned wooden floors add a sense of occasion, while a panoramic terrace with sweeping garden views gives the whole space a grandeur that makes it exceptional for families travelling in style.

Dining

Dining at Villa Cora spans four distinct venues. Restaurant Le Bistrot takes Italian regional cuisine as its foundation, with Executive Chef Alessandro Liberatore transforming seasonal Tuscan ingredients each evening. By the pool, the Santa Garden Cocktail Club handles aperitivo hour with flair. The Bellevue Roof Terrace offers views across Florence, while Il Salotto del Santa, with its green and gold velvet sofas, is the spot for pre and post-dinner drinks.
Wellness

Accessed via an underground tunnel from the main villa, the Bene Spa at Villa Cora is a beautifully concealed wellness retreat. Facilities include a tepidarium, sauna, steam bath, jacuzzi, and three private treatment cabins including a couples suite. Treatments draw on the Natura Bissé product range, winner of Best Spa Product Brand at the Luxury Spa Edit Awards 2025, spanning signature facials, body massages, and bespoke rituals.
Garden and Pool

Villa Cora’s heated outdoor pool is a genuine rarity in Florence, set within a 900-square-metre Italian-style garden of majestic yew and oak trees. Over a hundred varieties of French, British, and antique roses bloom across the grounds in soft pastel shades. A beautiful and unusually serene retreat, available year-round thanks to the pool’s winter heating.
Italy
Italy is a long, narrow country running from the Alps in the north to Sicily and the Mediterranean in the south. The geography changes faster than the language. Alpine lakes (Como, Garda, Maggiore) in the north. Industrial cities, fashion and finance in Milan and Turin. The Renaissance cities of the central plain (Florence, Bologna, Siena). The capital and ancient sites in Rome. The southern coastlines of the Amalfi, Puglia and Calabria.
Our Experts
Italy is one of the best places in Europe to experience culture, food and beautiful scenery. With so much character and colour, the Amalfi Coast is a personal favourite of mine.
I never get tired of planning luxury vacations in Italy. There are so many magical cities and experiences to be enjoyed. Beaches, mountains and rolling countryside, there really is something for everyone.
Stellar service. Stellar products. Stellar people and it gets so much better when you pick up the phone and call.

Rome’s Gay Legacy: A Luxury LGBTQ+ Tour Through the Roman Empire
Tailor-made VacationThe Roman Empire's relationship with sexuality was fundamentally different from the morality imposed by later Christianity. Same-sex relationships existed openly among the elite, were documented in historical records, and shaped the empire's political and cultural landscape. What's often sanitized in standard history books becomes viscerally real when you stand in the actual spaces where these emperors lived, ruled, and loved. This isn't revisionist history.
