Few destinations do this much, this well, in one trip.

Here at Out Of Office, we truly understand the world you live in, and the world you want to explore. Our attention to detail, exceptional service and deep understanding of both luxury travel and LGBTQ+ travel make us a fantastic choice for those looking for a travel experience where exclusivity meets inclusivity.

Celebrating 10 Years of Luxury LGBTQ+ Travel

Why is Greece a popular luxury travel destination?

? Don't forget that all of our itineraries are totally customized and so this is just an idea of what we can build for you.

Most itineraries start in Athens. The Acropolis is the obvious draw, but the city has become a destination in its own right over the past decade. World-class restaurants in Plaka and Monastiraki, design hotels in Kolonaki, and a confident cultural scene that’s caught up with its history. Two or three nights here sets the rest of the trip.

From Athens the country opens up. The Cyclades alone offer enough variety for a full holiday. Mykonos for nightlife and beach clubs. Santorini for caldera views and cliff-edge hotels. Paros and Naxos for quieter beaches and better food than either of the famous islands. The Ionian side has Corfu, Kefalonia and Zakynthos. Crete works as a destination on its own. The Athens Riviera, the seventy-kilometre stretch of coast south of the capital, has quietly become one of Europe’s most stylish luxury enclaves.

The history runs through all of it. Delphi, Olympia, Meteora’s cliff-top monasteries, the ruins on Delos. You can build a trip around the archaeology, around the islands, around the food and wine, or around all three.

For LGBTQ+ travelers, Greece is one of the most welcoming destinations in Europe. Same-sex marriage became legal in February 2024, making Greece the first Orthodox Christian country to legalize it. Athens has an established and integrated gay scene around Gazi and Kerameikos. Mykonos remains one of the world’s most stylish gay destinations.

Travel Information for Greece

General Information

Greece sits at the southeastern tip of Europe, on the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts. The country covers a small mainland and around 6,000 islands, 200 of which are inhabited.

The main island groups are the Cyclades (Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, Naxos), the Ionian (Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos), the Dodecanese (Rhodes, Symi) and Crete, which is large enough to be a destination on its own.

Athens is the capital and the country’s main international gateway. Thessaloniki, in the north, is the second city and increasingly a destination in its own right. The mainland holds the major archaeological sites including Delphi, Olympia and the cliff-top monasteries of Meteora.

Greek life runs on a later clock than most of northern Europe. Lunch is from 2pm to 4pm, dinner rarely starts before 9pm, and many businesses close from 2pm to 5pm in the afternoon. Tourist season runs from April to October, and many island hotels, restaurants and ferries close entirely from mid-September through to March, which is the single most important thing to know when planning an island trip outside high summer.

UK and US passport holders do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. From 2026, non-EU visitors will need an ETIAS travel authorization in advance, which is straightforward and inexpensive but easy to forget at the last minute.

Greece LGBTQ+ Rights

Greece is one of the best destinations on earth for gay travelers.  At the center is Athens, a city that functions confidently as both cultural capital and livable gay destination. The LGBTQ+ scene is established and integrated, concentrated around Gazi and Kerameikos, where cocktail bars, clubs, and late-night restaurants sit comfortably alongside galleries and design hotels.

For travelers seeking a more overtly social experience, Mykonos remains one of the world’s most refined gay destinations. Gay beaches, international nightlife, and world-class luxury hotels. Events such as Xlsior Festival anchor the late-summer calendar, attracting an upwardly mobile crowd.

Beyond these anchors, Greece has many great destinations to explore – some lesser-known. Thessaloniki makes for a sophisticated alternative: a younger city with a low-key gay scene, strong food culture, and a sense of place that exists independently of tourism. In the Cyclades, islands such as Paros and Naxos attract gay travelers who value privacy, landscape, and excellent dining over nightlife.

Seasonality shapes everything. July and August are intense and crowded. May, June, September, and early October offer warmth, availability, and a more elegant pace. Athens remains reliable year-round, while island scenes rise and fall with summer.

Greece works for luxury gay travel today because it allows choice. You can be social or private, visible or discreet, immersed in nightlife or focused on culture – often within a single itinerary. That flexibility, paired with strong infrastructure and fascinating history, is what makes Greece an enduring luxury travel destination.

How We Book the Trip

A Greek trip is built around two questions. Which islands, and how to move between them. The Cyclades alone offer fifteen viable choices, and the differences between them matter. Mykonos and Santorini work for some travelers and not others. Paros, Naxos and Milos are quieter alternatives.

The Ionian side is a different proposition entirely. The first conversation we’ll have with you is which combination suits the kind of trip you want.
Ferry timetables shape the rest. The schedules look straightforward online but they don’t tell you which boats are the new fast catamarans and which are the older slower ones, where the docks actually are, or when a missed connection means losing a day.

We build itineraries around ferries that actually work, and we use private speedboat transfers between islands where they save time.

The hotels are the trip in Greece more than in most countries. Santorini is all about the caldera view, and the difference between a real cliff-edge cave suite and a hotel set back from the edge matters. Mykonos has shifted from a single famous coastline to dozens of small properties spread around the island, and which side of the island you stay on shapes the whole holiday. Athens has a proper design-hotel scene now, with rooftop bars looking onto the Acropolis. The right hotel choices are what separate a good Greek trip from a forgettable one, and our specialists make these calls every day.

Every trip we book is fully tailor-made. You’ll have one dedicated specialist from your first enquiry through to the day you fly home.

The Acropolis at Sunset

The Parthenon is the obvious one, and seeing it at the end of the day rather than midday is what turns it from a tour into a memory. Book a private archaeologist guide who can explain how the buildings fit together and what you’re actually looking at. Then take a rooftop table somewhere in Plaka or at one of the design hotels with an Acropolis view, and watch the marble change color in the light.

A Caldera-View Suite in Santorini

Santorini is built around one view, and the right hotel puts you directly on it. A real cliff-edge cave suite in Oia, Imerovigli or Fira, with a plunge pool on the deck and the caldera laid out beneath you. Three or four nights is enough. The sunsets are the headline, but the mornings, when the cruise ships haven’t yet arrived and the light is still soft, are the part most travelers don’t expect.

Island Hopping in the Cyclades

Three islands is the right number for a Cyclades trip. The classic combination is Mykonos for nightlife and beach clubs, then Santorini for the caldera, with a quieter third island in between. Paros has the food and the best small hotels. Naxos has long sandy beaches and authentic villages still functioning outside tourism. Milos has volcanic coastlines that look more like the moon than the Aegean. Our specialists will tell you which combination works for the kind of trip you want.

Luxury Travel in Greece

Greece has quietly become one of the most interesting luxury destinations in Europe over the past ten years. The hotel scene has caught up with the country itself, and the standout properties now sit alongside the best of Italy and the South of France.

In Athens, the Four Seasons Astir Palace on the Athens Riviera and the Hotel Grande Bretagne overlooking Syntagma Square anchor the city. Newer design hotels like the Dolli, set in a 19th-century mansion under the Acropolis, have changed what staying in Athens means. On Santorini, Canaves Oia and Grace Hotel are the names for cliff-edge cave suites with the real caldera view. Mykonos has the Belvedere, Cali Mykonos and Kalesma.

Crete has the Amanzoe at the southern tip of the Peloponnese (one of the most quietly impressive hotels in Europe), and the boutique villas of Domes Zeen. Smaller islands like Paros now have properties like Cosme to match.
Beyond the hotels, the experiences are the part of Greece that’s developed fastest.

Private archaeologist guides at the Acropolis and Delphi who explain what you’re looking at rather than reciting dates. Private yacht charters through the Cyclades with a captain and a chef on board. Helicopter transfers between Athens, Mykonos and Santorini that turn a half-day of ferries and airports into 30 minutes. Sunset dinners on a private terrace in Oia. Wine tastings at Santorini’s volcanic-soil vineyards.

Greece doesn’t have the heritage of luxury that France and Italy have, but it now has the service layer to compete.

Weather in Greece

  • January

    5°C - 10°C

January is the coldest month with averages reaching 10°C in Athens. In the Greek islands, temperatures are slightly colder with an average of 9°C.

  • February

    5°C - 10°C

February is similar to January with averages reaching 10°C in Athens. Greece is lucky in the fact it experiences very little rainfall all year round.

  • March

    10°C - 20°C

Temperatures in March start to increase slightly, although it still isn't warm enough to sunbathe if you want to avoid the hot sunshine, March is a nice month to site see in Athens.

  • April

    10°C - 20°C

April is a pleasant month with very little rainfall and mild temperatures.

  • May

    15°C - 25°C

May time is when there is a noticeable difference in temperature with averages reaching around 19°C. In the Greek islands, temperatures can get as warm as 24°C.

  • June

    20°C - 30°C

  • July

    20°C - 30°C

July is one of the hottest months with temperatures reaching 33°C. July also has the longest days with around 12 hours of sunlight. Because of this, June July and August are the most expensive months.

  • August

    25°C - 35°C

Like July, August brings hot daily averages and virtually no rainfall.

  • September

    20°C - 230°C

September is a good time to visit if you aren't great with heat but still want to get a summer glow. Since it isn't as hot, prices are also slightly lower and schools will have gone back if you are looking to avoid noisy families.

  • October

    15°C - 25°C

October is where temperatures begin to drop again and rainfall increases.

  • November

    10°C - 20°C

In November temperatures continue to drop. The winter time isn't the best time to visit Greece because you can't really do any of the activities which Greece is famous for.

  • December

    10°C - 15°C

December has the highest average rainfall at 98mm. Again, temperatures are a lot colder compared to the summer months.

Getting to Greece

Athens International Airport is the country’s main gateway and the easiest entry point for most itineraries. From Athens, domestic flights and ferries connect to the islands. Santorini, Mykonos and Crete also have direct international flights in season, which can save a day if you’re flying straight to the islands rather than starting in Athens.

From the US

Direct flights from the US East Coast to Athens run year-round on Delta and American from New York, and seasonally from other cities. Total flight time is around 10 hours. From the West Coast, the most common routing is via New York, Frankfurt or London, with total journey time around 16 to 18 hours. United and American both offer good connections.

From the UK

Athens is around three and a half hours direct from London. British Airways and Aegean run multiple daily services from Heathrow, with seasonal direct flights also operating from other UK cities. For travelers heading straight to the islands, direct seasonal services run from the UK to Santorini, Mykonos, Crete and Corfu from May through October, which can save a day at either end of the trip.

We’ll handle the international flights, the in-country logistics including ferry tickets and domestic flights, and any island transfers or private speedboat connections.
