At a glance
A recently renovated Belmond resort between jungle and beach on the Riviera Maya, with the Maroma Spa by Guerlain, waterfront suites, and a contemporary Mexican dining program.
Maroma sits on the Riviera Maya coast in Quintana Roo, off Carretera Cancún-Tulum at Kilometre 51, set across a stretch of jungle and white-sand beach. Originally opened in 1995 and now part of the Belmond portfolio, the property reopened in 2023 after a complete renovation that added a new collection of waterfront suites, a new wellness offering, and a reworked dining program.
The accommodation lineup leans residential, with the signature suites and villas at the top of the range, including the four-bedroom Villa Maroma, the private-pool Villa Xuxú and Villa Mariposa, and the Pavo Real Suite. Oceanfront Suites are the entry point for the renovated stock.
The Maroma Spa by Guerlain anchors the wellness side, set within the jungle and structured around purification and rebirth rituals. The food program is contemporary Mexican across multiple venues, with a Fire & Friends chef series bringing in international Michelin talent. The hotel was listed in the World’s 50 Best Hotels.

Further information
Dining

Maroma runs four restaurants and bars. Casa Mayor is the all-day venue, serving sustainable Mexican cooking with 90% of ingredients sourced from Mexico and over half from the Yucatán Peninsula, including tacos and quesadillas hand-prepared by Maroma’s La Tia, Olivia. Woodend by Curtis Stone is the signature, a beachside restaurant from the Australian chef cooking seafood over open fire, now listed in the Michelin Guide. Bambuco by Handshake handles mixology, with cocktails designed by the Mexico City bar Handshake Speakeasy, and Freddy’s Bar covers all-day beachside drinks and small bites.
Wellness

Maroma Spa by Guerlain takes the wellness side, structured around the four elements with signature treatments including Mayan Power (Fire), Talisman of Immunity (Earth), Purifying Cenote (Water), and Spirit of Mayan Music (Air). Facilities cover nine treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy circuit with steam room and sauna, a swimming pool, jacuzzi, cold plunge, and a traditional temazcal. The apothecary is set up for workshops on healing plants and ancestral recipes.
Location

Maroma is on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, in Quintana Roo, around 30 minutes south of Cancún International Airport and a short drive north of Playa del Carmen. The setting puts the resort within easy reach of the Riviera Maya’s cenotes, coral reefs, and Mayan archaeological sites, including Tulum and Cobá. The local Akumal turtle beaches and the Sian Ka’an biosphere reserve are also within driving distance.
Mexico
The Riviera Maya runs south from Cancun along the Caribbean coast, with the resort strip of Playa del Carmen and Tulum giving way to jungle and reef as you move away from the main tourist corridor.
Our Experts
Pristine beaches, beautiful cenotes, archaeological sites... there really is something for everyone on the Riviera Maya. I recommend it to anyone looking for that perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.
With it's boho-chic vibe and stunning beaches, Tulum is my favourite spot on the Riviera Maya. And of course, you have Akumal just 20 minutes away by car, where you can swim with sea turtles.
Stellar service. Stellar products. Stellar people and it gets so much better when you pick up the phone and call.

Los Cabos: Adventure Beyond the Resort
Tailor-made VacationBeneath its resort reputation, Los Cabos holds some of the richest marine life in Mexico and a desert most visitors never see. Los Cabos has built its reputation on resort pools and beachfront cocktails, but the water and the desert surrounding the peninsula hold a different kind of trip entirely, one that queer and trans-focused dive operators in the region have already been running for years.

Riviera Maya: A Wellness Retreat
Tailor-made VacationMayan-inspired rituals, a sanctuary for sacred bees, and a cenote lagoon for morning yoga, woven into one retreat. This seven-day retreat is built around a Riviera Maya resort with one of the region's more distinctive wellness programs, anchored by a genuine commitment to Mayan healing tradition rather than a generic spa menu borrowed from elsewhere.
