Mayan-inspired rituals, a sanctuary for sacred bees, and a cenote lagoon for morning yoga, woven into one retreat.

This seven-day retreat is built around a Riviera Maya resort with one of the region’s more distinctive wellness programs, anchored by a genuine commitment to Mayan healing tradition rather than a generic spa menu borrowed from elsewhere. A couple of carefully chosen excursions are layered in, and the ruins, day trips, and nightlife that fill most Riviera Maya itineraries are left out by design.

Central to the resort’s own program is an on-site sanctuary dedicated to an endangered stingless bee considered sacred by the Maya, whose honey features throughout the spa’s treatments. Beyond the property, a day trip to Yäan Healing Sanctuary offers a more traditional counterpoint, with a temazcal ceremony, the Mayan sweat lodge ritual, followed by a cool-down swim in a cenote and a meal of traditional Yucatecan food. A separate morning is set aside for stand-up paddle yoga on a cenote or lagoon, balance and breathing combined in a setting unlike any studio.

Back at the resort, a cenote-inspired purifying ritual and a cacao healing ritual offer two further paths into Mayan wellness tradition, while a guided underwater meditation experience closes out the more unusual side of the program.

Between these experiences, the days are largely unstructured, and there is space throughout for simply doing nothing at all, an increasingly rare offering on a coastline usually built around excursions. The retreat closes with a quiet final day, a chance to notice what a week without a fixed schedule actually feels like before the return home.

In detail

? Don't forget that most of our itineraries can be totally customized. Our expert team will be able to talk you through all the options.

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive at your resort in Riviera Maya, where a private transfer collects you from the airport and delivers you directly to check-in. There is no itinerary for the rest of the day, a deliberate choice to let the journey itself settle before the retreat properly begins. Jet lag and the transition out of a regular routine both take a little time to work through, and the first afternoon is built to allow for that rather than rush past it.

A welcome consultation with the resort’s spa team follows later in the day, a conversation rather than a treatment, meant to shape the week ahead around what you actually need. Some guests arrive wanting more physical activity, others want almost total stillness, and most want some shifting balance of both across the seven days. The evening is left open, with an early dinner and a quiet night the easiest way to arrive.

Day 2: Bee Sanctuary and Healing Ritual

The morning begins at the resort’s own sanctuary for the Melipona, an endangered stingless bee considered sacred by the Maya for millennia and long used as a source of medicinal honey. A guide walks you through the hives themselves, explaining both the conservation work behind the sanctuary and the bee’s specific role in Mayan cosmology, before the morning moves into the spa for a two-hour healing ritual built directly around the bees’ honey.

The treatment itself layers a honey-based application with a slower, more rhythmic massage than a typical spa visit, designed to draw out the honey’s reputed anti-inflammatory and restorative properties rather than simply relax the muscles. Afternoon is left entirely open, and many guests choose to spend it doing very little, given how much the morning’s ritual asks of the body to properly absorb.

Day 3: Yäan Healing Sanctuary

A private driver collects you after breakfast for the transfer to Yäan Healing Sanctuary, a dedicated wellness site built specifically around pre-Hispanic healing traditions rather than a conventional resort spa. The visit opens in the Healing Waters Circuit, a sequence moving between warm and cool massage pools, a sauna, and a steam room with an adjoining marble-stone hammam, each step designed to prepare the body for the ceremony that follows.

The day’s centerpiece is a temazcal, an ancient Mayan sweat lodge treatment that predates the resort era of the coast entirely. Inside an igloo-shaped hut built from stone, a practitioner pours water over heated volcanic rocks in rounds known locally as doors, each carrying its own meaning in regional folklore, while herb-infused steam fills the enclosed space. The ceremony is intense by design, and afterward, a swim in a nearby cenote cools the body down quickly, the cold, mineral-clear water a deliberate contrast to the heat just experienced. A meal of traditional Yucatecan food closes out the visit before the drive back to the resort.

Day 4: Scenic Paddle Yoga

The morning is spent on the water, combining balance on a paddleboard with yoga postures, at either the cenote of Chikin Ha, a peaceful open-air pool surrounded by greenery, or the Kaan Lum lagoon, on the edge of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.

The full excursion runs around five hours and includes transport, lunch, and all necessary equipment. The remainder of the day, once back at the resort, is left unscheduled.

Day 5: Cenote Ritual and Underwater Meditation

Back at the resort, the day opens with a purifying ritual drawing on the cenote’s significance in Mayan cosmology as a sacred water source.

In the afternoon, a guided underwater meditation experience offers something genuinely unusual, unique to the property.

Day 6: Cacao Ritual and the Beach

A cacao healing ritual opens the day, drawing on cacao’s long history as both a ceremonial and medicinal substance in Mayan tradition.

The rest of the day belongs to the beach, with many guests choosing this final full day for one more spa treatment or simply time to notice how the week has shifted their pace.
