Inkaterra La Casona is an all-suite luxury hotel in a former conquistador house. It has just 11-suites. There’s no lobby or reception desk so it’s more like staying in a private home. A very grand private home! This is a great place to connect with Peru’s history, especially if you’re venturing to Machu Picchu – which you no doubt will be. Back in the 16th-century, this property was used by the Spanish elite after they’d taken over the country and brought the Inca civilisation crashing down.

This is undoubtedly one of the finest hotels in Peru. It’s located in the San Blas district of Cusco. The Museum of Colonial Art is next door and many of the best restaurants in town are on your doorstep. The building retains its original masonry. It’s a towering example of Spanish colonial style.

While same-sex marriage has not yet been legalized in Peru, the country offers legal protections against discrimination, providing a relatively safe environment for LGBTQ+ individuals. Discrimination based on sexual orientation is prohibited in areas such as employment and public services, and while social attitudes may vary, LGBTQ+ travelers can generally visit without fear of persecution or legal challenges.

In larger cities like Lima, Cusco, and Arequipa, Peru has thriving gay scenes with vibrant LGBTQ+ nightlife, bars, and clubs. These urban centers offer a mix of cultural experiences, historical attractions, and welcoming spaces for the LGBTQ+ community, allowing visitors to enjoy the best of Peruvian hospitality in an inclusive setting.

While legal recognition of same-sex marriage remains a work in progress, Peru’s growing acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly in urban areas, signals a positive direction toward further rights and inclusivity. LGBTQ+ travelers can explore Peru’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and dynamic gay scenes with a sense of ease, knowing that their rights are protected in the major cities.
