The Southern Maldives operates on a different scale from the atolls clustered near Malé. Gaafu Alifu, where both properties sit, is roughly five to six hours away by speedboat, or a shorter domestic flight followed by a transfer, and that distance does the real work of keeping the atoll quiet. It filters out day-trippers, leaving reefs with far less traffic than the more accessible northern resorts.
Pullman Maldives Maamutaa and Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa sit within reach of each other in this same remote tier, though each has settled into a distinct register. Maamutaa’s architecture reads as deliberate rather than maximalist, built around an 18-hectare grounds and a natural lake at its center. Hadahaa takes a similarly restrained approach, treating the surrounding reef as the primary reference point rather than a backdrop for design.
Between the two, a stay in the Southern Maldives moves between underwater exploration, some of the region’s least-dived reef systems, and the kind of stillness that only comes from being this far from anywhere else.

Pullman Maldives
Pullman Maldives Maamutaa sits on Maamutaa Island in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll, one of the more remote corners of the southern Maldives. The all-inclusive package here goes further than most: meals across the resort’s restaurants are included without limit, along with a sunset cruise built into the stay rather than offered as an add-on.
The resort’s Aqua Villas take the Maldives’ underwater dining tradition and apply it to accommodation instead, with rooms set below the waterline that put the lagoon’s marine life directly outside the window. For guests who want to see more of it up close, the Pullman Suvadiva Diving Center runs trips out to some of the least-dived reef systems in the southern atolls.
Park Hyatt Maldives
Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa sits in North Huvadhoo, one of the largest and deepest natural atolls in the world, a scale that shapes almost everything about a stay here. The house reef circles the entire island, steps from every villa, which makes it one of the more reliable dive and snorkel locations in the southern Maldives without needing a boat to reach it.
The resort’s 50 villas split between the shoreline and the water, each built with unobstructed ocean views and enough separation from its neighbors to feel private. Beyond the reef, the experience extends into the wider atoll: guests can be welcomed into a local home to see native life outside the resort, or head out on a traditional Dhoni fishing boat, alongside the more expected draw of diving reefs that remain largely untouched by tourism.
