This itinerary combines Velaa Private Island and JOALI, two resorts that take that idea particularly far. At Velaa, the emphasis is on privacy, space and exceptional service, with large private villas, a golf course, extensive watersports and some of the best food and wine offerings in the Maldives. JOALI brings a more design-led feel, with striking villas, private pools, art throughout the island.
Moving between the two by seaplane also means the journey never drops down a gear. There are no long road transfers or awkward logistics. You move from one private island to another, with every part of the trip designed around comfort and ease.
And this is where the Maldives really excels. Private dining, yacht charters, sandbank lunches, diving, spa treatments and completely unstructured days can all be arranged without compromise.
For gay couples, the private-island resort model is also particularly important. We work with properties where same-sex couples are welcomed comfortably and discreetly, allowing you to enjoy the Maldives as it should be experienced: privately, exceptionally well looked after, and with very little to think about once you arrive.
Day by day
This is a sample plan, not a fixed departure. Days can be added, removed or reordered, and almost every client changes something. Prices are an entry-level guide; your quote will be exact.
Days 1-4: Velaa
Begin at Velaa Private Island, one of the Maldives’ finest luxury resorts.
Every villa comes with a private pool and generous outdoor space, while the island itself has far more to offer than simply a beach and a spa. There is a golf course designed by José María Olazábal, an extensive watersports program, tennis and yoga, alongside excellent snorkeling and diving.
Service is a major part of the appeal. The resort has assembled staff from some of the Maldives’ best properties, and the level of attention is one of the reasons Velaa sits comfortably at the top end of the market.
Food and wine are a real part of the appeal at Velaa. You are not limited to one main restaurant and a predictable resort menu for four nights. There is enough choice to eat differently across the stay, and the wine list is unusually extensive for a private-island resort.
This is a good introduction to the trip because it sets the standard immediately. Large villa, private pool, strong service, very good food, and virtually everything you might want without needing to leave the island.
Days 5-9: JOALI
From Velaa, continue by seaplane to JOALI, giving you a second take on high-end Maldivian luxury rather than simply repeating the same resort experience.
Every villa includes a private infinity pool, and the island has been developed around art, design and a highly personalized style of service.
Each guest has access to a jadugar, essentially a personal butler, who handles the details around the stay. That matters on this kind of trip because the best luxury is often about not having to organize anything yourself.
The island also places more emphasis on art and conservation, which gives it a very different personality from Velaa. You still have the privacy, space and service expected at this level, but the atmosphere is more contemporary and creative.
Combining the two works particularly well because you get contrast without lowering the standard. Velaa is more understated and established, while JOALI feels more modern and design-focused.
Private Experiences in the Maldives
One of the advantages of staying at this level is how much can be arranged privately around you.
At both resorts, we can build in experiences that make use of the setting. That might mean a private sandbank lunch, a sunset or stargazing cruise, a private beach dinner, diving or snorkeling with a guide, or a day on the lagoon arranged entirely around your pace.
Seaplane transfers are also part of the experience rather than simply transport, giving you a completely different view of the atolls as you move between islands.
The point is choice. You can make the trip as active or as unstructured as you want, while keeping the same level of privacy and service throughout.
