At a glance

This is not a standard destination wedding. It is a Highland estate experience. Over the course of a week, you and your guests take residence in your own castle or exclusive-use estate, surrounded by dramatic landscapes and centuries of history.

From helicopter arrivals to candlelit ceremonies and bespoke Highland experiences, this itinerary transforms a wedding day into a fully immersive celebration.

Scotland has recognized same-sex marriage since 2014, one of the first countries in the world to do so, and it has had more than a decade to get very good at it.

The legal framework is straightforward, the celebrants are experienced, and there is none of the ambiguity that surrounds destination weddings in parts of southern Europe or further afield. More practically, Scotland treats a same-sex wedding the way it treats any other wedding: as an occasion that deserves to be done well

A Highland estate in the right conditions, mist on the loch at dawn, the sound of nothing except wind and water, a candlelit hall that has hosted gatherings for two centuries, produces a quality of atmosphere that can't be manufactured.

Designed with quiet confidence and complete discretion, it is Scotland at its most refined.

Day by day

?

This is a sample plan, not a fixed departure. Days can be added, removed or reordered, and almost every client changes something. Prices are an entry-level guide; your quote will be exact.

Day 1: Arrival in Edinburgh

VIP fast-track arrival and a private transfer into the city set the tone immediately. Accommodation is either a five-star hotel or an exclusive-use townhouse depending on party size and preference. The evening is intimate: a private whisky tasting in a historic vault followed by a welcome dinner for close guests.

Day 2: Edinburgh With Depth

The city before the crowds arrive is a different place. A private Old Town tour in the early morning covers closes, courtyards, and histories that the standard walking route doesn’t reach. The afternoon is for a tailoring session, whether kilts, bespoke suiting, or both, and couples spa treatments. The rehearsal dinner in the evening overlooks the skyline. For couples with Scottish heritage, an optional ancestral research reveal can be woven into the day.

Day 3: Transfer to the Highlands

This is the moment the trip changes register. You transfer, by road or helicopter, from Edinburgh to a Highland estate. Champagne on the lawn on arrival, an estate manager introduction, and a fireside dinner in a candlelit hall. From this point forward, the estate is yours.

Day 4: Pre-Wedding

The day before the ceremony is unhurried by design. Guests choose from a curated selection of estate activities: falconry, clay shooting, guided hill walks, lochside sauna, or a private whisky blending session. The evening brings a ceilidh with live musicians. Refined, joyful, and distinctly Scottish.

Day 5: The Wedding

Ceremony location is chosen to suit the couple. Options include a lochside setting with open Highland backdrop, a candlelit castle hall, or a dramatic clifftop ceremony on the Isle of Skye. Design details are developed in full consultation: Scottish heather florals, string quartet or harp, a celebrant experienced with LGBTQ+ ceremonies, and discreet high-end photography throughout.

The reception follows with a six-course tasting menu built around Scottish produce, paired with rare whisky. Fireworks over the loch after dinner. An after party in a stone-walled whisky bar to close the evening.

Day 6: Recovery and Indulgence

A champagne brunch with no particular agenda. A private loch cruise in the afternoon and a guided picnic in the hills. For couples who want to disappear entirely, a helicopter transfer to a secluded island lodge is available.

Day 7: Honeymoon Extension

Scotland has more than one chapter. The itinerary can continue to the Isle of Skye for its cinematic coastline and dramatic interior, to the Hebrides on a private yacht, to a grand country estate for golf and spa, or south on the Caledonian Sleeper, one of the great overnight train journeys in Europe, toward London and an onward connection.

Why Scotland Works for an LGBTQ+ Wedding

Scotland has recognized same-sex marriage since 2014. The legal framework is straightforward, the venues are experienced, and the country has none of the ambiguity that surrounds destination weddings in some other parts of the world. More importantly, the right Highland estate handled well feels like the world has paused for you. That’s harder to arrange than it sounds, and it’s exactly what Out Of Office is built to deliver.

Every element of this itinerary, from the estate selection to the celebrant, the helicopter logistics to the final dinner menu, is arranged through direct relationships rather than standard supplier lists. No two weddings we plan look the same.

Why Plan Your Scotland Wedding With Out Of Office

Planning a wedding in Scotland from abroad involves more moving parts than most couples anticipate. Estate availability, celebrant licensing, helicopter logistics, catering at a remote property, accommodation for guests traveling from multiple countries. Each element requires a supplier relationship that goes beyond a website enquiry.

Out Of Office has been arranging luxury LGBT travel and experiences for over a decade. We know the estates that deliver and the ones that disappoint. We have the relationships with the celebrants, the photographers, and the private transport operators who understand what a wedding at this level requires. When something needs rerouting, whether that’s weather forcing a ceremony indoors or a guest transfer that needs rescheduling, we’re on hand to adapt without it reaching you.

What we don’t do is sell packages. A Scotland wedding arranged through Out Of Office starts with a conversation about what you actually want, and is built from there. The budget, the guest list, the tone, the level of privacy: all of it shapes the itinerary rather than the other way around.

If you’re considering Scotland for your wedding, talk to us before you talk to anyone else.

Highland Estates: Why They Work for Weddings

A Highland estate is not a wedding venue in the conventional sense. There is no events coordinator cycling between three ceremonies in a day, no shared car park, no other couple’s flowers still in the entrance hall when you arrive. When you take over a Highland estate, you take over all of it: the grounds, the lodge, the staff, the loch, the deer forest, the kitchen. For however many days you’re there, it operates entirely around you.

The best estates have been in private hands for generations. The staff know the property the way only long-term custodians do, which glens get the best light in the evening, which stretch of river is worth fishing at dawn, which room has the best view for a ceremony. That institutional knowledge is part of what you’re engaging when you book at this level.

The settings are genuinely dramatic without requiring any staging. A ceremony beside a Highland loch with mountains behind it needs no decoration to create atmosphere. The landscape does that work. What good planning provides is the framing: the right time of day, the right position, the right light. Scotland’s northern latitude means long summer evenings that last until ten or eleven at night, which changes what’s possible for an outdoor reception in a way that venues further south simply can’t replicate.

Privacy is the other factor that matters. Highland estates are remote by definition. The nearest village might be thirty minutes away. There are no passing tourists, no neighboring tables, no possibility of the day being photographed by a stranger. For couples who want their wedding to exist entirely on their own terms, that degree of seclusion is almost impossible to find anywhere closer to a city.

The scale varies considerably, from intimate lodges sleeping twelve to grand estates that can accommodate fifty or sixty guests across multiple buildings. The right choice depends on the wedding rather than on a standard headcount. Out Of Office knows which properties suit which kind of celebration.
