Malta has built a reputation as one of Europe’s leading destinations for a gay wedding, combining a Mediterranean setting with some of the strongest LGBTQ+ legal protections anywhere in the world.
The islands themselves carry the kind of layered history that makes for a memorable backdrop: Megalithic temples older than the pyramids, architecture shaped by Moorish, Baroque, and British influence in turn, and a culture built from centuries of overlapping rule. Same-sex marriage became legal here in 2017, and Malta has consistently ranked first on global indexes measuring LGBTQ+ equality since.
That layered history shows up just as clearly in daily life. Maltese, a language with Semitic roots written in the Latin alphabet, is the only one of its kind in Europe, spoken alongside English almost everywhere.
Food carries the same mixed inheritance, Sicilian, North African, and British influences sitting comfortably alongside each other, in dishes like pastizzi, rabbit stew, and the island’s own particular take on a Sunday lunch. Village feasts, known as festas, still draw entire communities out into the streets each summer, complete with fireworks, brass bands, and processions that have barely changed in generations.
This itinerary moves from Valletta’s fortified streets to the historic Three Cities, into Mdina, and out to the coast for the wedding itself and a final stretch by the water, with venue options ranging from five-star hotel settings to a private beachside ceremony looking out toward Gozo and Comino.

Days 1-2: Valletta
A private transfer meets you at the airport for the drive to your hotel, in sea-view accommodation close to the Malta National Aquarium and Bugibba Square.
Valletta shared the title of European Capital of Culture in 2018, and it’s kept that momentum since, with new boutique hotels and arts events steadily opening across the city. Renzo Piano’s City Gate, opening directly onto Malta’s Parliament building, is one of the clearest signs of that shift, a modern insertion into a city otherwise built almost entirely from 16th-century stone. Time is spent at the Grand Master’s Palace, once the seat of the Order of St. John and today home to the office of Malta’s president.
In the evening, dinner is at Giannini’s, with views out over the water.
Day 3: Birgu/Senglea
An early transfer crosses to Birgu, directly opposite Valletta and one of the Three Cities that ring the Grand Harbour, alongside Senglea and Cospicua. A guided half-day tour covers the Great Siege of 1565, when Malta held off an Ottoman invasion at enormous cost, and its later wartime history in 1942, when the island once again withstood a sustained assault, this time from the air. Much of that history is visible in the city’s Baroque architecture, including St. Lawrence Church, flanked by columns of pink marble.
From Senglea, the views back across the Grand Harbour toward Valletta are some of the best on either side of the water.
Day 4: Mdina
Malta’s former capital, nicknamed the Silent City for its strict limits on car access, is a place where the quiet itself is part of the experience. A guide leads a tour through the city’s major sites, including Mdina Cathedral, before continuing to St. Paul’s Catacombs, one of Malta’s most significant early Christian sites, technically located in neighboring Rabat, just outside Mdina’s walls.
Dinner that evening is at The Mdina Restaurant, a fitting setting to close out the day.
Day 5: Wedding Ceremony
All Maltese weddings, religious or civil, are conducted under the island’s Marriage Registry, and same-sex couples have exactly the same legal standing as any other. Our team handles the planning end to end, from the choice of ceremony style to photography, hair, and makeup, so the day itself is the only thing that needs your attention.
Hola Beach Club, in Marfa Bay, is one of the strongest settings on the island for a beach wedding, framed by palm trees with views out toward Gozo and Comino. For those who’d rather a different backdrop, the Ramla Bay Resort’s Mojito Terrace is a strong alternative. Our travel concierges can talk through the full range of options.
Days 6-7: Beach Resort
The final days are spent at the Blue Lagoon, off Comino’s coast, known for some of the clearest water anywhere in the Maltese islands. The lagoon’s shallow, turquoise water makes for easy snorkeling, and the cliffs framing it on either side keep the setting quiet even when the water itself draws a crowd, a fitting close to a week that moves from the density of Valletta to some of Malta’s stillest coastline.
