This 9-day island-hopping itinerary explores three of Thailand’s lesser-known islands in the Gulf of Thailand, travelling from Koh Chang to Koh Kood and finishing on the small, laid-back island of Koh Mak, with travel via Trat.
A quieter inspirational itinerary, it has been designed for travellers who want beautiful beaches without crowds, slower island life, clear water and natural scenery rather than nightlife or high-density resorts.
The journey begins on Koh Chang, Thailand’s third-largest island, where jungle-covered hills meet long sandy beaches and waterfalls.
From there, you continue by boat to Koh Kood, widely regarded as one of Thailand’s most unspoilt islands, known for its soft white sand, clear seas and relaxed pace.
The final stop is Koh Mak, a small, quiet island ideal for switching off completely, with gentle beaches, shallow reefs and a strong sense of simplicity.
Accommodation is pre-arranged at well-located resorts on each island, with boat and land transfers included between stops. The itinerary balances time to explore with generous downtime and is well suited to couples or travellers looking for an easy-going alternative to Thailand’s more developed island routes.

Days 1-3: Koh Chang
The journey begins on Koh Chang, Thailand’s third-largest island and a diverse introduction to the eastern Gulf. After arriving via Trat, you transfer by ferry to the island and settle into a beachside resort on the quieter western coast.
Time on Koh Chang is intentionally flexible, so you can experience the island entirely at your own pace. You may choose to relax on long sandy beaches, explore jungle interiors and waterfalls, or visit fishing villages and viewpoints dotted along the coastline. With its mix of forested hills, calm bays and coral reefs, Koh Chang offers a balance of nature and comfort without feeling overly developed.
Days 4-6: Koh Kood
From Koh Chang, you continue by boat to Koh Kood, an island widely regarded as one of Thailand’s most unspoilt. Known for its powder-soft beaches, crystal-clear water and low-key atmosphere, Koh Kood feels deliberately removed from mass tourism.
Days here are slow and simple. You might spend time swimming and snorkelling in clear shallow bays, visiting waterfalls hidden in the jungle interior, or exploring small fishing communities where daily life remains unchanged. The pace is gentle, with very little nightlife and an emphasis on natural beauty, making Koh Kood the most secluded stop on your journey.
Days 7-8: Koh Mak
The final island stop is Koh Mak, a small, laid-back island sitting between Koh Chang and Koh Kood. With few roads, gentle beaches and a strong focus on sustainability, Koh Mak is ideal for slowing right down.
Life here centres on relaxation. Days are best spent walking or cycling around the island, swimming in calm waters, enjoying traditional Thai massages or taking short boat trips to nearby islets and reefs. Compared to the larger islands, Koh Mak feels intimate and quiet, providing a peaceful final chapter to the journey.
Day 9: Return to Trat and Departure
On the final day, you return by boat to the mainland and transfer to Trat Airport for your onward journey. The route brings the trip to a gentle close, completing a relaxed island-hopping experience through some of eastern Thailand’s least-visited and most naturally beautiful islands.
