The Conversation Worth Having
Where we do counsel awareness is around transit. Time spent in Malé, the capital, is time spent in a more conservative public environment, and we’re honest that same-sex couples should exercise the same discretion there that they would in any Islamic-majority city.
The good news is that the new Velana International Airport, opened in 2025, has dramatically reduced the time spent in transit, cutting arrival times from several hours to around forty-five minutes from landing to seaplane departure. The window of exposure, as it were, is now very short.
Beyond that, our advice is straightforward. Be yourself at the resort. Enjoy every moment of it. The Maldives was built for exactly the kind of holiday you’re planning.
