At a glance
100 Princes Street feels less like checking into a conventional five-star hotel and more like being handed the keys to an extremely well-connected private club. With just 30 rooms, it’s discreet and intimate, despite occupying one of Edinburgh’s most famous addresses.
Then there’s the view. The hotel faces directly towards Edinburgh Castle, across Princes Street Gardens, and some rooms frame the fortress so perfectly that paying extra for a castle view feels entirely justified. You’re also brilliantly placed for exploring the city, with the Old Town rising opposite and Edinburgh’s elegant New Town behind you.
Inside, the mood is unmistakably Scottish. The building was formerly the headquarters of the Royal Overseas League, and its interiors draw inspiration from Scotland’s great explorers. Bespoke tartans by Scottish designer Araminta Campbell appear throughout, alongside rich color and artwork that give the hotel the warmth of a beautifully styled private home.
The heart of the hotel is The Wallace, a guest-only lounge where you can settle into a deep chair overlooking the castle and quite easily lose an afternoon. Nearby, Ghillie’s Pantry holds more than 100 whiskies and hosts private tastings.

Highlights
- Castle views worth upgrading for: Some rooms look directly across to Edinburgh Castle, one of the city’s great hotel views.
- Feels like a private club: Just 30 rooms and guest-only spaces give 100 Princes Street a wonderfully intimate atmosphere. Pasted text
- Whisky done properly: Ghillie’s Pantry holds more than 100 whiskies, with private tastings available during your stay.
Accommodation
Rooms
Rooms at 100 Princes Street feel warm and cocooning, with bespoke Scottish tartans bringing plenty of color to the interiors. Marble bathrooms come with heated floors, while thoughtful details continue through the minibars and beautifully made beds.
If you’re coming to Edinburgh for the first time, we’d strongly consider upgrading to a castle-view room. Waking up with Edinburgh Castle directly across Princes Street is one of the things that makes staying here feel so special.
Suites
The suites offer more space and some of the hotel’s most memorable views. Individual designs keep the private-club atmosphere, with richly layered fabrics and Scottish details rather than generic contemporary luxury.
The Isobel is one of the signature suites overlooking Edinburgh Castle, named after Scottish Arctic explorer Isobel Wylie Hutchison. Other suites introduce features such as a working fireplace or private terrace, making them particularly tempting for a romantic Edinburgh trip or special occasion.

Food & Drink

The Wallace is the heart of 100 Princes Street, a handsome guest-only lounge overlooking Edinburgh Castle. Rather than a formal hotel restaurant, it’s somewhere you can settle into a leather chair for a whisky and end up staying for dinner.
Food is available throughout the day, with the kitchen leaning towards beautifully executed comfort dishes using Scottish produce. Afternoon tea keeps things pleasingly traditional, while breakfast is worth making time for before heading out into the city.
Whisky gets its own stage at Ghillie’s Pantry, an intimate tasting room lined with more than 100 bottles. Private tastings can be arranged here, whether you already know your Scotch or want someone knowledgeable to introduce you to it properly.
And those castle views make The Wallace particularly difficult to leave around cocktail hour. Order a drink, take the window seat and Edinburgh provides the backdrop.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital and sits on the country’s eastern side, close to the Firth of Forth. It’s a relatively compact city, although the hills and cobbled streets mean distances can feel rather more substantial once you start walking them. The historic center is divided broadly between the Old Town and New Town. Together they form a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but they feel remarkably different.
Stellar service. Stellar products. Stellar people and it gets so much better when you pick up the phone and call.

A Gay Honeymoon in Scotland: Edinburgh and the Highlands

Edinburgh is one of Europe's most beautiful capital cities, dense with history, excellent restaurants and an LGBTQ+ scene that has been at the heart of the city for decades.
