Same-sex marriage has been legal in Quintana Roo, the state covering the Riviera Maya, since 2011, years ahead of much of Mexico, and the region’s resorts have had well over a decade of practice hosting same-sex couples as a matter of course rather than as something new. That legal footing, paired with a coastline that rivals anywhere in the Caribbean, has made the Riviera Maya one of the more dependable luxury honeymoon destinations for gay couples in the Americas.
The beaches do a lot of the work here. Private beachfront cabanas, oceanside couples’ massages, and resort spas built around hydrotherapy and local botanicals are standard at the region’s top properties, and the warm, calm water along this stretch of coast makes it easy to spend entire days barely leaving the shoreline.
For couples who want to get inland, the Riviera Maya’s cenotes, freshwater sinkholes hidden through the jungle, offer some of the clearest swimming anywhere in Mexico, and a handful can be booked for a private visit rather than shared with tour groups.
Tulum’s clifftop Maya ruins, overlooking the Caribbean directly, make for one of the more striking history stops on the coast, particularly early in the morning before the crowds arrive.
The resort landscape here covers more ground than most Caribbean destinations manage. Adults-only, all-inclusive properties dominate much of the coast for couples who want everything handled from arrival to departure, while a smaller crop of boutique hotels around Tulum and Playa del Carmen cater to couples who’d rather build their own itinerary meal by meal.
Overwater bungalow-style suites, private plunge pools, and swim-up rooms are all in reach here, often for less than equivalent properties elsewhere in the Caribbean, and several resorts now run wedding and vow renewal packages built specifically around same-sex couples, ceremony, photography, and reception handled entirely on-site.

Gay Honeymoons in the Riviera Maya
Playa del Carmen anchors much of the region’s LGBTQ+ scene, its Quinta Avenida strip lined with restaurants and bars that draw an international crowd, and a growing number of boutique hotels here cater specifically to same-sex couples. It’s a natural base for the more social stretch of a honeymoon before heading somewhere quieter.
Akumal, further down the coast, trades Playa del Carmen’s energy for something calmer, a bay known for sea turtles that couples can snorkel alongside just off the beach, with far fewer crowds than the more established resort towns nearby.
Adventure is easy to build in without leaving the region. Zip-lining through the jungle canopy, diving with whale sharks during their summer migration off Isla Holbox, and horseback riding along quiet stretches of beach all give active couples plenty to fill the days that don’t involve a pool.
The region’s resorts have kept pace with that range, Michelin-recognized dining, spa treatments built around Yucatan ingredients like honey and henequen, and excursions run by guides with real knowledge of Maya culture rather than a scripted tour. It’s a rare combination of five-star comfort and a region that still feels like it has more to explore.

Plan Your Gay Honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta is one of the most popular LGBTQ+ vacation spots on the planet. PV is located on the coast between the Sierra Madre mountains and Banderas Bay. It's packed with luxury hotels, buzzing gay nightlife, romantic beaches and concierge services for luxury travelers.

Chichén Itzá makes for a longer day trip than most excursions on this coast, roughly two and a half hours each way, but standing in front of El Castillo, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, is worth the drive for couples with a genuine interest in Maya history. Going with a private guide and an early departure avoids both the midday heat and the tour bus crowds.
Isla Mujeres, a short ferry ride from Cancún, offers a slower, more local counterpoint to the mainland resorts, golf carts instead of cars, a small-town waterfront, and a sculpture garden submerged just offshore that’s become one of the more unusual snorkeling spots in the region.
Cooking classes built around Yucatecan cuisine, cochinita pibil, fresh tortillas, mole made from scratch, give couples something hands-on to do together beyond the beach, often held in a private kitchen with a chef rather than a group setting.
For a different kind of evening, a sunset catamaran trip along the coast, with dinner served on board, gives couples a view of the shoreline most visitors only see from the sand.

Secluded Tahiti & Rangiroa Tour
Tailor-made VacationThis itinerary moves through three of French Polynesia's quieter islands, each reached only by boat or short inter-island flight, and each rarely appearing on a first-time visitor's itinerary. It suits travelers who have already done Bora Bora, or who would rather skip it, in favor of a slower, less-photographed route through French Polynesia. The journey begins on Tahiti, where volcanic peaks meet a coastline still shaped by the island's original Polynesian settlements.

Ultimate Luxury: French Polynesia
Tailor-made VacationThis itinerary is built around the highest tier of accommodation French Polynesia has to offer, and around the freedom to move between islands without waiting on ferry schedules. Private planes and helicopters cover the inter-island transfers, which on an itinerary spanning several atolls saves real time otherwise lost to inter-island logistics. The islands themselves remain the point.

Gay Honeymoon in Bora Bora: Tahiti, Taha’a & More
Tailor-made VacationBora Bora is the honeymoon most couples picture when they imagine French Polynesia: overwater bungalows suspended above a lagoon that shifts through every shade of blue, Mount Otemanu rising behind it, and a level of privacy that has made the island one of the most reliably LGBTQ+ welcoming honeymoon destinations anywhere in the South Pacific.

Mauritius: The Out Of Office Collection
Tailor-made VacationMauritius is one of the LGBTQ+-friendly pearls of the Indian Ocean. Unlike its Indian Ocean neighbor the Maldives, Mauritius is comprised of a single island. Mauritius is considered a superb beach destination, especially on the north side of the island, where the longest stretch of beaches can be found. Our favorite beach in Mauritius is Belle Mare Plage, a peaceful and palm-lined shore with powder-white sands.

The Southern Maldives: Pullman Maamutaa & Park Hyatt Hadahaa
Tailor-made VacationThe Southern Maldives operates on a different scale from the atolls clustered near Malé. Gaafu Alifu, where both properties sit, is roughly five to six hours away by speedboat, or a shorter domestic flight followed by a transfer, and that distance does the real work of keeping the atoll quiet. It filters out day-trippers, leaving reefs with far less traffic than the more accessible northern resorts.

The Best of Malé: Waldorf Astoria & Reethi Rah

Ultimate Luxury: The Maldives
Maldives Tailor-made VacationIf you want to do the Maldives at the very highest level, this is the trip. Few destinations are as naturally set up for luxury travel.
