Water Garden Sigiriya sits within the Cultural Triangle, one of the most historically rich parts of Sri Lanka, with the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya visible from the grounds.
The resort takes its name from the waterways, lakes and ponds that run through the property, a layout that draws directly on the water garden design of the sixth-century citadel it faces.
Thirty villas are spread across this landscape, each with a private plunge pool, and the whole property operates at a pace that encourages guests to slow down rather than move on quickly.
For anyone building a Sri Lanka itinerary that takes in the Cultural Triangle, this is the natural base. Polonnaruwa, Dambulla and Sigiriya Rock itself are all within reach, but the property has enough going on within its own grounds that two or three nights rarely feel like enough.

Accommodation
Deluxe Villas
The Deluxe Villas at 950 square feet are the entry point at Water Garden Sigiriya. Each has a king-size bed, twin sinks, a bath tub partially submerged in water, and views across the streams and ponds that run through the grounds.
Interiors work with neutral tones and occasional colour, and the living space is fully separate from the bedroom.
Superior Deluxe Villas
The Superior Deluxe Villas at 1,282 square feet add a private plunge pool and sun deck with views toward Sigiriya Rock.
The layout and finish are the same considered approach as the Deluxe, with a king-size bed, twin sinks and a freestanding bath, but the position and pool make them the stronger choice for couples.
Duplex Twin Villas
The Duplex Twin Villas 2,135 square feet are the largest option and work across two floors, with one room containing a king-size bed and one with twin beds.
Each has a private plunge pool with a Jacuzzi and a sun deck designed with wildlife watching in mind. They suit families or two couples travelling together, and the scale gives a degree of separation that a single-level villa cannot.

Food & Drink
The restaurant serves Sri Lankan and international dishes, with seating available inside or on the terrace.
The two-floor bar is the place to be at the end of an afternoon out, with drinks and snacks available in an open setting that looks across the grounds.
Both spaces work well for guests who want to eat at their own pace rather than to a fixed schedule.
Spa & Wellness
The spa at Water Garden Sigiriya offers Ayurvedic treatments and massages, with a focus on treatments that work with the surrounding environment rather than against it.
There is a fitness centre on site. The outdoor pool and a children’s pool sit within the water garden grounds, and cycling is available for guests who want to explore the area at their own tempo.
