Scotland’s wild landscapes always reward those willing to go further. This itinerary does exactly that, moving from the gothic streets of Edinburgh through the raw drama of Glencoe and Skye, before easing into the quiet luxury of the Cairngorms.

It’s a trip that builds as it goes, each landscape more elemental than the last, each evening more memorable than the one before.

There’s a reason the Scottish Highlands have been drawing travelers for centuries, and it has nothing to do with tartan or shortbread tins. The landscape is extraordinary: vast glacial valleys, lochs that stretch to the horizon, ridgelines that shift color by the hour depending on what the sky is doing.

The Highlands are also, despite their reputation for remoteness, increasingly well set up for the kind of travel we specialize in. A generation of ambitious hoteliers has arrived and done something quietly remarkable, taking old estate buildings and forgotten coastal properties and turning them into places with serious kitchens, considered design, and the kind of service that doesn’t need to announce itself.

What’s more, Scotland has long been one of Europe’s most welcoming destinations for LGBTQ+ travelers, backed by strong legal protections.

In detail

? Don't forget that most of our itineraries can be totally customized. Our expert team will be able to talk you through all the options.

Days 1–2: Edinburgh

The trip begins in one of Europe’s most theatrical cities, and we make no apologies for easing you in gently. Your base is a five-star townhouse hotel or landmark property, somewhere with history baked into the stonework and staff who know when to disappear.

Days are spent with a private guide through the Old Town’s closes and courtyards, the kind of Edinburgh that guidebooks gesture at but rarely reach. Evenings move from whisky tasting in a private members club to a reservation at one of the city’s Michelin-level tables. For those who want more, there’s the option of a private gallery visit or behind-the-scenes access to the castle, the sort of experience that doesn’t appear on any public ticketing system.

Days 1–2: Edinburgh

Days 3–4: Glencoe and the West Highlands

Based in a luxury country house or design-led Highland hotel, your days are shaped around the valley itself: a private guide for Glencoe exploration, ridge walks tailored to your pace and ability, and a picnic set up in the kind of spot that makes you question every city you’ve ever lived in. Sundowners happen at a sunset viewpoint with champagne. The more adventurous can arrange a canyoning experience or a gentle wild swim.

Evenings are unhurried. Fireplace dining, a Highland tasting menu, a spa treatment or a long soak in an outdoor hot tub with the hills going dark around you.

Days 3–4: Glencoe and the West Highlands

Days 5–6: Isle of Skye

Skye operates on a different frequency to the rest of Scotland. The scale is vast, the light is strange, and the feeling of being genuinely remote, even in considerable comfort, is real. Your base is a coastal lodge or high-end boutique hotel with views that you won’t forget.

A private guide takes you to the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr, along with hidden waterfalls and trails that most visitors never find. A boat charter covers the coastline from the water, stopping for a seafood lunch at a tiny harbour. On clear nights, stargazing sessions deliver skies most guests have never seen before. For those who want to go further, sea kayaking with a marine wildlife guide is an option worth considering.

Days 5–6: Isle of Skye

Days 7: Cairngorms or Loch Lomond

The final night is about relaxation. A luxury spa hotel, a thermal journey and massage, a gentle forest walk, a scenic drive through whisky country. The aim is to finish the week feeling restored.

Days 7: Cairngorms or Loch Lomond
