A Private Candlelit Dinner Beside a Jungle Waterfall, Khao Lak

Follow a candlelit path through the rainforest to a table beside a waterfall, for a dinner and starlit swim that are yours alone.

A Path of Candles

Hundreds of candles lighting a path through the rainforest

A path lit by candles opens into the trees, hundreds of flames leading you on, their glow shining on wet rock and leaves. Ahead, a table waits beside the waterfall itself, near enough to feel the spray. There are no other guests, no music and no staff in sight, only the sounds of the jungle and the falling water, and a dinner prepared, timed and placed entirely for the two of you, one of Thailand’s great honeymoon evenings.

Khao Lak’s Quieter Coast

Rainforest-covered hills along the Andaman coast at Khao Lak

Khao Lak lies on Thailand’s Andaman coast, hemmed in by national parks and thick rainforest, and unlike the island resorts to the south it has stayed quieter, thanks to conservation zones and lighter development. Its waterfalls belong to protected ecosystems, flowing year-round but at their most dramatic from November to April. In Thailand, private dining has traditionally meant the home or the temple grounds, with food made for particular guests rather than the public, and this dinner draws on that idea of hospitality as personal and rooted in place. It has become one of the country’s most requested honeymoon experiences, often named among the world’s most romantic private dinners.

It only works because it’s completely private. Public waterfalls in Thailand are busy by day, with groups arriving and leaving quickly; here, access is limited to one couple for the whole evening, with no time limit and no sense of being watched. You’re free to linger, wander, or sit in silence between courses.

No two trips we plan are the same. Yours will be no exception.

Linen, Candlelight, and Falling Water

Table with white linen on a stone platform beside the waterfall pool

The table stands on a flat stone platform by the pool at the foot of the falls, set with white linen, gleaming glassware and low flowers that leave the setting to speak for itself, while candlelight does the rest, with hundreds of flames along the path, around the rocks, and behind the table. The waterfall feels alive, always moving, catching the light as it falls, its steady sound grounding everything, and the jungle wraps around you, tall trees and dense leaves soaking up noise and sealing off the space.

As dinner goes on, the candles burn low and stars appear above the canopy. Between courses you might stroll along the pool’s edge or sit on rocks still warm from the day, and if you wish, the water is yours: a swim in the pool by candlelight and starlight is part of the night.

The Menu

Lamb massaman curry and Andaman prawns served beside the waterfall

The chef plans the menu with you beforehand or earlier in your stay, usually with several courses paced to suit you. Thai dishes might include marinated Andaman prawns, slow-cooked lamb massaman curry with spices and coconut, or steamed white snapper with lime and chili; Western choices often feature seared duck breast, grilled lobster, or simply cooked local produce. Champagne or sparkling wine greets you on arrival, with wines chosen to match the menu, service is unhurried and seamless, and dessert may be the Thai classic, mango sticky rice.

Few dinners have a setting that can’t be copied or shared. The memory is less about the food than about where you were, how quiet it was, and how the world shrank to a single place.

Planned Down to the Weather

Private transfer vehicle waiting at dusk near the rainforest

A dinner like this needs more than a reservation: access to protected land, coordination with resort specialists, seasonal planning, and precise timing. Out Of Office secures it at the right point in your stay, allowing for weather, water levels, and privacy, with private transfers timed to sunset and the light. The menu reflects your tastes, and details like photography, swim breaks, and pacing are agreed upon beforehand, so nothing needs deciding on the night. Your LGBTQ+ travel specialist can build it into your Thailand honeymoon, and our Thailand guide covers LGBTQ+ rights and travel advice.
