Taiwan’s government in favour of legalising same-sex marriage

The constitutional court has announced equality over the current marriage laws

Taiwan is soon to become the first Asian country to legalise same-sex marriage. The high courts officially announced today that the current law which states a marriage is between a man and a women is unsound.

The court ruling said “Sexual orientation is an immutable characteristic that is resistant to change. The freedom of marriage for two persons of the same sex, once legally recognised, will constitute the collective basis, together with opposite-sex marriage, for a stable society.”

This is the first huge positive step forward in LGBT rights in Asia, and there are hopes this will spark further movements in other Asian countries to follow suit and legalise same-sex marriage.

It will take two years for the law to become fully legalised, but this announcement symbolises the power LGBT activists have in bringing equality and freedom to their country.

With these positive movements, now is a great time to visit Asia's most progressive country. With such a rich culture and historic past there is so much to do and see. From its beautiful hot springs to its majestic mountains, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
