A Studio Above the Harbor

Something has stood on this site since Roman times, and in 1946 the castle became a working studio for Pablo Picasso. Picasso After the War

Picasso came to Antibes just after the Second World War, when the town was quiet and a world away from the strain of Paris. The château, then a temporary exhibition space, gave him light and privacy. In 1966 the château officially became the Musée Picasso, the first museum given over to his work alone.
