Proudly LGBTQ+ Experts and Welcoming to All Travelers

From a private camp on the floor of the Grand Canyon to a suite overlooking Waikiki, from the wild coastline of Maine to the sun-baked red rock canyons of Utah, the United States contains more extraordinary travel experiences than most people manage in a lifetime.

Here at Out Of Office, we truly understand the world you live in, and the world you want to explore. Our attention to detail, exceptional service and deep understanding of both luxury travel and LGBTQ+ travel make us a fantastic choice for those looking for a travel experience where exclusivity meets inclusivity.

Celebrating 10 Years of Luxury LGBTQ+ Travel

Why is USA a popular luxury travel destination?

? Don't forget that all of our itineraries are totally customized and so this is just an idea of what we can build for you.

The cities alone could keep you busy for years: the cultural density of New York, the culinary depth of New Orleans, the creative energy of Nashville, the particular magic of a long summer weekend in Provincetown. Knowing where to start is half the challenge.

From the sunny shores of Hawaii to the snowy vastness of Alaska, the United States spans an extraordinary range of landscapes. Tropical islands, desert canyons, alpine wilderness and dramatic coastlines sit within the same country, making it possible to experience completely different worlds in a single trip.

Few destinations offer this kind of geographic variety, where one journey might begin on a Pacific beach and end beneath glaciers or mountain peaks thousands of miles away.

That’s where Out Of Office comes in. We are luxury travel specialists with deep knowledge of the US, from the properties worth the price to the experiences that don’t show up on the first page of search results.

A Sonoma winery that doesn’t take walk-ins. The Palm Springs resort where the atmosphere actually matches what you’re looking for. A Colorado River itinerary that feels nothing like a group tour.

We have the relationships, the inside knowledge, and the attention to detail that turns a good American trip into one you’ll spend years telling people about.

Travel Information for USA

General Information

Getting Around

The US is best navigated by a combination of air and ground transport. Domestic flights are frequent and reasonably priced, making them the practical choice for covering long distances, particularly between the coasts.

For regional exploration, renting a car is often the most rewarding option: the Pacific Coast Highway, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the roads through Utah’s canyon country are as much a part of the experience as the destinations themselves.

Amtrak serves many major cities and offers some scenic long-distance routes, though journey times are rarely competitive with flying.

Climate

The US spans such a range of latitudes and landscapes that generalizing about climate is almost impossible. The Southwest, including Arizona, Nevada, and Southern California, is warm year-round and at its best in spring and fall.

The Northeast has four distinct seasons, with summers that can be hot and humid and winters that are cold enough to make a difference to your packing. Florida and Hawaii are popular year-round, though Florida’s hurricane season runs from June through November.

The Pacific Northwest is mild but famously wet outside of summer, while Alaska is best visited between May and September.

Entry Requirements

Most international visitors to the US travel under the Visa Waiver Program, which allows stays of up to 90 days for citizens of eligible countries. An approved ESTA is required before departure. Canadian citizens do not need a visa or ESTA. Requirements change, so always check the latest guidance from the US Department of State before traveling.

Currency and Tipping

The currency is the US dollar. Tipping is an integral part of American service culture rather than optional: 18 to 20 percent is standard at restaurants, and tipping hotel staff, drivers, and tour guides is expected. Build it into your budget.

Time Zones

The continental US spans four time zones, from Eastern to Pacific, with a three-hour difference between the coasts. Hawaii is two hours behind Pacific time. If you are combining multiple regions in one trip, time zone changes are worth factoring into your planning, particularly for internal flights.

USA LGBTQ+ Rights

The legal landscape for LGBTQ+ rights in the US has shifted significantly since 2025. Same-sex marriage remains federal law following the 2015 Supreme Court ruling, and that has not changed.

However, the Trump administration has issued a series of executive orders that roll back federal non-discrimination protections, redefine sex as strictly binary at the federal level, and restrict transgender rights in areas including healthcare, federal employment, and documentation. A number of these orders face ongoing legal challenges, and many have been partially blocked by courts.

In practice, the day-to-day experience for gay and lesbian travelers across the country’s major cities remains broadly positive. New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, and Palm Springs have deep-rooted LGBTQ+ communities, strong local protections, and a culture of genuine welcome that operates largely independently of federal policy.

Provincetown, Fire Island, and Rehoboth Beach remain among the most established and affirming resort destinations in the country.

Transgender travelers should be aware of the current federal climate, particularly regarding passport documentation and access to healthcare. Conditions vary considerably by state, and our team can advise on specific destinations based on your circumstances.

As with any destination, we recommend checking the latest guidance from IGLTA and the Human Rights Campaign before traveling.

Visit New York

New York is one of those cities that lives up to the reputation. Manhattan alone contains more world-class museums, restaurants, and neighborhoods than most cities manage in their entirety: the Met and MoMA on the same afternoon, dinner in the West Village, cocktails in a rooftop bar with the skyline laid out in front of you.

The other boroughs reward exploration too, particularly Brooklyn, which has developed into one of the most interesting food and culture destinations in the country in its own right.

The city works in every season, though spring and fall offer the most comfortable conditions for walking, which is by far the best way to experience it.

A long weekend covers the highlights; a week lets you slow down and actually inhabit the place. Stay in Midtown for convenience or the West Village and Tribeca for atmosphere. Shop the designer boutiques of the Upper East Side, walk the High Line, take the ferry to see the skyline from the water.

New York is also the natural starting point for wider Northeast itineraries combining the Hamptons, the Hudson Valley, or a drive up through New England in fall.

The Mississippi Delta or Florida Keys

The Mississippi Delta is one of the great overlooked American journeys. Driving south from Memphis through the small towns of Mississippi, stopping at juke joints, visiting the birthplaces of blues legends, and eating barbecue that has no equivalent anywhere else in the country, it is the kind of trip that stays with you.

Combine it with New Orleans at the end and you have one of the most culturally rich road trips the country offers.

The Florida Keys are better known but still underrated as a slow-travel destination. Drive the Overseas Highway south from Miami, stopping at fishing villages, independent seafood shacks, and the kind of low-key waterfront bars that disappear when you move too fast.

Key West at the end of it has a charm that the bigger Florida resort towns have largely lost.

The California Zephyr

The American train journey has had a quiet luxury revival. The private rail cars that once carried Vanderbilts and railroad barons still exist, and a small number of operators charter them attached to scheduled Amtrak routes.

The California Zephyr from Chicago to San Francisco through the Rockies and the Sierra Nevada is one of the great scenic rail journeys in the world. Done in a private car with a dedicated chef and staff, it is also one of the most underrated luxury experiences in the country.
Montana’s guest ranches have moved well beyond the cowboy fantasy. The best of them, in the Paradise Valley south of Livingston and around the Beartooth Range, offer fly-fishing with world-class guides, helicopter access to backcountry terrain, and accommodation that would not look out of place in a Conde Nast feature. The fly-fishing alone draws serious travelers from across Europe and Asia. Most Americans have no idea these properties exist.

Getting to USA

For transatlantic travel in business class, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Delta One, and United Polaris are the most consistent performers on the main US routes, with lie-flat seats and decent onboard service on the longer sectors.

Lufthansa, Air France, and Swiss are worth considering for European travelers routing through their respective hubs. For those already in the country, domestic first class has improved considerably and is worth the upgrade on longer cross-country sectors.

Within the US, a private driver is often the most practical luxury upgrade, particularly in cities where self-drive adds stress rather than freedom. Los Angeles, New York, and Miami all reward having someone else handle the road. Out Of Office arranges ground transportation as part of every itinerary.

For those who want to move between destinations entirely on their own terms, private jet charter removes the friction of commercial airports and opens up a wider range of regional airstrips.

It also makes itineraries possible that would otherwise require awkward connections: flying direct into Napa, or from Jackson Hole into Palm Springs, for example.
