Athens gives you the Parthenon and some of the best restaurants in the country before you head into the Cyclades.
Mykonos is the social part of the trip. It remains Greece’s most famous gay island, with gay beaches, late nights in Mykonos Town and JackieO’ at Super Paradise. JackieO’ is still one of the island’s defining gay venues, combining a beach club, pool, restaurant and performances above the bay.
Santorini comes afterwards. Stay in Oia overlooking the caldera, take a boat out across the volcanic landscape, explore the island’s wineries or do very little beyond ordering lunch and looking at the view.
Atrina Canava 1894 remains one of our favorite places to stay here, built around historic wine caves in Oia and offering private terraces overlooking the Aegean and caldera.
We can change the hotels, extend either island or add somewhere quieter such as Paros or Naxos.
Day by day
This is a sample plan, not a fixed departure. Days can be added, removed or reordered, and almost every client changes something. Prices are an entry-level guide; your quote will be exact.
Day 1 And 2: Athens
Arrive in Athens and transfer to your hotel in the center of the city. Give yourself two nights here rather than treating Athens purely as the place you fly through on the way to the islands.
The Acropolis is the obvious first stop. The Parthenon has stood above Athens for almost 2,500 years, and seeing it in person earns its place at the beginning of a honeymoon through Greece. Spend some time at the Acropolis Museum as well, then head back into the city for dinner.
For one of your evenings, we can reserve a table at Spondi in Pangrati. It remains part of the Michelin Guide and is one of Athens’ long-established fine dining restaurants.
There is also a gay Athens beyond the ancient ruins. Gazi is the center of the city’s gay nightlife, so you can quite easily follow dinner with a night on the town.
Day 3, 4 And 5: Mykonos
Head across to Mykonos for three nights.
Mykonos has a particular appeal for gay honeymooners because, every summer, it draws an unusually affluent, international gay crowd. You get the privacy of a great hotel and the option of joining what is effectively a seasonal gay jet set, with travelers arriving from London, New York, Paris and beyond. Spend the day by your pool or at the beach, then head into Mykonos Town for dinner, drinks and a night out. It feels social, polished and very international, without making the whole honeymoon about nightlife.
Spend a day around Mykonos Town, where the lanes eventually bring you out around Little Venice and the windmills. Another day can be devoted almost entirely to the beach. JackieO’ Beach Club sits above Super Paradise Bay and remains one of the island’s most famous gay institutions.
There is plenty to do when you want a break from Mykonos being Mykonos. Delos is a short boat trip away and was one of the most important religious centers of the ancient Greek world. Its ruins make a very good contrast to Mykonos’ social and luxury scene.
Day 6 And 7: Santorini
Continue to Santorini and make Oia your base.
Atrina Canava 1894 occupies former wine caves that have been in the same family since the 19th century. The suites and villas look across the caldera, and several categories have outdoor Jacuzzis or large private terraces.
Santorini is built around a collapsed volcanic caldera, which is why the landscape looks unlike anywhere else in the Cyclades. Take a private sailing trip through the caldera, visit Akrotiri or spend an afternoon tasting the island’s Assyrtiko wines.
Oia gets extremely busy around sunset. Having your own terrace is one of the great luxuries here: everyone else can fight for a position with their phones while you open another bottle.
Day 8 And 9: Athens
Return to Athens for your final night.
Building that night into the itinerary gives you some protection against ferry disruption before an international flight, but it also means the trip does not end with a dash through the airport.
Have one final dinner in Athens, stay somewhere central and fly home the following day.
