Getting to Kyoto
Kyoto does not have its own airport. Most international travelers arrive through Kansai International Airport (KIX) near Osaka, with direct trains and private transfers connecting the airport with Kyoto. Osaka’s Itami Airport handles mainly domestic flights and is another convenient option when arriving from elsewhere in Japan.
From Tokyo, the Tokaido Shinkansen is the easiest way to reach Kyoto, with the fastest services taking a little over two hours. Kyoto is also well connected by rail with Osaka, Nara, Hiroshima and other major destinations, making it easy to include as part of a wider journey through Japan.
