At a glance

Malta is known as one of the most gay-friendly countries on earth. Renowned for its historic sites, it has been ruled by the Romans, French, British, Moors and the Knights of Saint John. As a result, you’ll find a great infusion of cultural influences.

There are many fortresses, temples and cathedrals to explore, as well as a subterranean complex of halls and burial chambers dating to circa 4000 B.C.

The cities and towns of Malta have many narrow, meandering streets to explore. In the countryside, you’ll discover medieval towers and wayside chapels. Malta is also home to the oldest known human structures in the world: Megalithic temples that pre-date the pyramids of Egypt and Stonehenge.

According to the Rainbow Index, Malta is now the most gay-friendly country in Europe.

In detail

Day 1 and 2: Valletta

When you arrive in Malta you’ll be met by your driver and transferred.

Malta’s capital is a UNESCO World Heritage City and nothing short of an open-air museum. Throughout the years, Valletta has welcomed Emperors, Heads of State, artists and poets and is now the permanent seat of the Maltese government.

The city plays host to a series of cultural events, from theatre in English, to concerts by leading opera singers. A hive of business activity during the day, the city switches to a slower gear for the night. In 2018, Valletta was the European Capital of Culture.

On a guided tour, you will visit the Barrakka Gardens, St. John’s Cathedral and the Grand Master’s Palace. After the tour, you will then head to the Malta Experience, a sensational vision and audio show which brings 7,000 years of island history to life.

Day 1 and 2: Valletta

Day 3: Rabat

After breakfast, you will be heading to Rabat on the outskirts of Mdina which was Malta’s first capital city. Your guide will show you St Paul’s Catacombs and also the Roman Villa or Domus Romana. It was discovered in 1881 and depicts how the Romans lived while they ruled Malta. You will also visit Mdina Cathedral.

After lunch, head to Ta’ Qali Crafts Village. The village is made up of rows of old Nissen huts housing craftspeople and retailers showcasing and selling Maltese made crafts. Your final stop of the day will be at the Mosta Dome which is the third largest unsupported Dome in the world.

Day 3: Rabat

Day 5: Gozo

Today you’ll get to explore Malta’s sister island, Gozo. Visit the lovely cathedral and also the Temples of Ggantija. The world famous Azure Window collapsed in the last few years, but its location is still well visited. It was used as a filming location in the first episode of Game of Thrones.

Enjoy lunch with panoramic views of the coastline before heading back to the mainland in the late afternoon.

Day 5: Gozo

Day 6 and 7: South Malta

Visit the South of Malta and the famous Hagar Qim and Mnjadra Temples. These two temples are situated on high, open wasteland near the southern seacoast of Malta surrounded by a typically Mediterranean landscape spectacular in its starkness.

Then head to Marsaxlokk Bay, meaning the South-East Port. This is the foremost fishing village and perhaps the most picturesque seaside locality on the Maltese Islands.

The following day, you’ll embark on the three cities tour. You will visit Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua, each offering a unique experience.
