Sitges is one of Europe’s most established LGBTQ+ destinations, with a reputation that goes back decades. Its proximity to Barcelona made it an early escape from the city, and over time it developed into a destination in its own right, particularly for the gay community. Much of the social life is centred around the seafront and the old town, where bars, beaches, and hotels sit within walking distance.
Most people split their time between the two, staying in Sitges for the beach and its LGBTQ+ scene, and going into Barcelona for museums, restaurants, and nightlife.
These islands are often grouped together, but they represent different parts of Greece. Lesbos stands apart for its cultural significance. It is associated with the poet Sappho, whose work has shaped the language and identity of lesbian culture for centuries. The town of Eressos, where she was born, continues to attract a lesbian community, and that continuity is central to the experience.
Santorini is defined by its volcanic landscape. The caldera, formed by a major eruption in the 16th century BC, determines where hotels are built and how the island is experienced. Mykonos developed later as an international destination, becoming known for its nightlife and beach clubs in the late 20th century.
People tend to combine these islands because they offer different experiences rather than the same one repeated.
New York’s place in LGBTQ+ history is tied to the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, where the 1969 uprising became a turning point for the modern rights movement. That history still shapes how the area is understood today.

Thailand is usually approached as a multi-location trip. Bangkok provides access to one of the most visible LGBTQ+ scenes in Asia, alongside historical sites such as Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Siamese kingdom.
